Vinyasa YOGA with ANNE
Certified RYT 500 hour yoga instructor. Currently teaches at Soful Yoga & Wellness
Fundamental Principles
👉🏼Intention: Release expectations of what the asana/posture is “supposed” to look like. Instead, view it through the lens of the inner landscape, sensing what works in the present moment.
👉🏼Breath: The life force and foundation that carries us throughout the practice. The breath is always primary and the asana is secondary.
👉🏼Foundation: Each asana/posture has a different relationship with gravity and is built from the ground up. Warrior ll begins in the feet, establishing a strong connection by pressing into the heel bone of the front foot and the outer edge of the back foot to form the foundation.
The bigger picture here…yoga is NOT one size fits all.
The fundamentals are to help cultivate self awareness, and the movement patterns come from a place of strength, stability and mindfulness!
Now, the practice…join me Monday morning for Strength & Stability class at 9:15
Until we meet again, be well!

YlN YOGA
Most forms of yoga are geared towards “Yang”, designed to be dynamic and active, heating up the body and working various muscle groups.
🌀
“Yin” offers a more passive, cooling and grounding practice that works the deeper tissues of the body. Yin requires one to have patience, and surrender into stillness while holding the postures for a period of time.
Cultivating “stress” over “stretch” which creates safe expansion and release of the deeper tissues of the body, providing greater mobility and over all support mentally and physically.
🌀
With the extreme heat during this Yang season, and the busy activities of summer we could all use a bit of cooling and grounding.
🌀
I am subbing the Yin class on Sunday, come spend some time on your mat to reset, recover and replenish!
Until we meet again, be well!

Transition
Transition…to make change or shift from one state to another.
When we practice yoga we shift and transition our bodies into different shapes. In between these shapes are transitional shapes like “Crescent Lunge” that move us seamlessly from one shape to the next.
Mindfully these transitions are managed with how we breathe, improving energy and perspective to ground and find balance.
Yoga acts as a metaphor for life, and the transitions we encounter during practice help us find the ease amongst the effort we encounter in real life time.
Transition into a new week by carving out some time for yourself!

Our daily movement patterns are good reasons to begin or stay consistent with a practice.
Yoga keeps us active and strengthens the ability to control our balance, and improving our coordination.
Strength & Stability is designed to increase balance, mobility while building muscular strength and stability, adding modifications and props to the postures making it accessible for all.

“The body is in harmony with the breath and the mind is in concentration.”
A core element of yoga is the breath, one of the first things we learn in the practice is to move in and out of the asanas in harmony with our breath.
Our breath becomes primary in order to sustain us while we move our bodies in and out of the shapes of the practice.
Monday’s knocking at the door…take a deep breath in and a lingering breath out…make a plan to join me tomorrow for Strength and Stability as we practice the harmony between your breath and movement!
See YOU on the mat at 9:15!

Yoga works by strengthening muscles that are essential for balance and strength. Different postures challenge our balance and the ability to stand in place without wavering, while keeping our center of gravity over a base of support. Improves body awareness, coordination and cultivates the ability to anticipate and react to changes.
Balance is essential for our well being and beneficial for everyday strength and stability. Even the simplest movements require balance and practicing yoga is a learning experience that equips us for life’s practice.
Looking to improve your balance?
Join me Monday for Strength and Stability, class begins at 9:15.

Happy Sunday from your SoFul teachers! We were recently in the studio together to take a class with our newest teacher, Eric, who will launch his Flow, Breathe, and Meditate class the Wednesday, May 1 at 7 pm. Make a plan to join us as we welcome him to the SoFul community! 🫶🏼
Flow, breathe, and meditate: The perfect trio! This class is equally balanced, starting with a Vinyasa flow to link movement to breath, transitioning into conscious breath work to elevate present-moment awareness, and ending with a calming guided meditation. All levels welcome.
According to Patanjali’s yoga sutra 2.46 Sthira Sukham Asanam, which means each posture is to be steady and comfortable or the convergence of effort and ease.
In other words, when focusing the attention on strength and grounded energy one begins to build adequate physical strength to find the ease amongst the effort in the asana/posture.
Could you use a dose of inspiration to find the ease within the effort, to feel grounded and increase strength and stability for your body, your mind and spirit?
If you answered yes, come join me at Soful Yoga Railwalk, Monday morning and find strength and stability!

“Yin Yoga is like a conversation with your body; listen carefully and you’ll learn profound truths.”
~Paul Grilley
Yin yoga is much more than a physical stretch or a way to become flexible.
It’s a slow introspective practice that allows one to hone in and be willing enough to listen, observe and cultivate self awareness.
For you week day warriors here’s an invitation to join me for the passive, quiet practice of yin. Time spent on your mat to replenish, recover, and reset before you start the hustle of a new week!

Standing Forward Fold
Uttanasana (OOT-tan-AHS-ahna)
A simple and basic foundation asana/posture.
Bringing the upper torso toward the lower body is said to be calming and introspective. Enhancing self awareness, exploring inwardly with a pursuit of balance and unity.
Forward folding shows us how the simple things can be done for our over all well being and that it doesn’t have to be complex to run your day.

I stepped on my first yoga mat in 2010, from that experience the reasons to practice outweighed the reasons not to practice. Yoga created opportunities far beyond my expectations and later lead me on path to share the practice with others.
Yoga is a personal practice, modified to meet the needs of the individual and a discipline that offers the practitioner ways to help cultivate a healthier lifestyle.

TRANSITION
Transitional postures in yoga are the threshold between one posture and the next. They are postures within themselves, prepping the body for the next pose. Helping to cultivate and tune in to the subtleties that keep us present, while maintaining the integrity of the structural body. Mind, body and breath all working together to create a seamless transition.
☘️
Transitions can be awkward and challenging, but at the same time strengthening us physically and mentally. How we approach and react to them within our yoga practice can reveal how we approach and react to the transitions we are faced with in life.
☘️
As we “transition” into March, I invite you to be mindful of the transitions in your life. To keep faith, be in prayer, meditation and breathe. All of these provide a foundation to help move us through the challenges of life.
☘️
Transition into your week with Strength & Stability tomorrow, I’ll be there to guide you through!
☘️
Until we meet again, be in good health!

5 Key Principals of Alignment
In the practice of yoga, aligning the physical body within different asanas/postures, is about creating lines, angles and positioning joints over one another (aka, bone stacking).
Alignment is not rigid in the sense of making perfect angles or that perfect shape we so often see on social media platforms. It is about the individual and utilizing our own unique structure to maintain key principles in a certain way.
Alignment is also important for the integrity of the body, helping to maintain and increase strength and stability while safely developing accessibility and functional mobility.
“The 5 Keys”
🗝️ Form a strong foundation within the feet adds stability and support.
🗝️Arrangement of joints inline with one another is essential for stabilization in the asana.
🗝️Be in a relationship with gravity; cultivates a more effective approach to alignment.
🗝️Align the neck; the cervical spine is an extension of the spine, important for function of energy flow, breath and stability.
🗝️Be present and move mindfully, focus on the breath & move with attention, bringing bodily awareness.
Key principles in alignment with modifications or yoga props can and will help to achieve the postures, regardless of mobility, shape or size.
Alignment is not about perfection, it’s what works best for you!

I had the privileged of leading this “OMazing” group through a practice of Yin today. I realized years ago the practice of Yin is a great compliment to the more Yang practice of Yoga.
Because we live in a society that honors doing over being, as humans we often doubt our valuable time is worth the quiet practice of yin and meditation.
But, when we slow down and allow the layers of built-up stress and tension to dissolve, we are allowing the life force that resides in each of us to bring us back to balance, to homeostasis.
Soful offers a Yin class each Sunday with a rotation of wonderful teachers.
Come join us!

“Find the Balance, Find the Ease”
Sthira Sukham Asanam
⚖️
“Sthira” meaning stability, intent, and strength. Sthira arises from the root stha, which means “to stand, to be firm”.
“ Sukha” refers to comfort and ease, from the root words “su” meaning good and “kha” meaning space.
(Yoga Sutras of Patanjali)
⚖️
Sthira-Sukham Asanam translates as postures that are steady and comfortable, more commonly known as the balance between effort and ease.

The Invitation
☯️
Yin is an invitation to slow down, to tune in and be still on the interior and sharpen our awareness to the subtleties of life. To have self-restraint…for an invitation to move deeper within the posture and remain still for a period of time, right where you are!
☯️
Here’s your invitation…join me on Sunday for the quiet floor based, passive practice of yin!
