"A constantly morphing paradox space…
Where the perception of time and space dissolves.
A future…
Where the perception of the reality as we know it intertwines with alternative realities,
Substance dissolves,
Forms reveal new possibilities..
Evolving constantly and generatively just like the formulizations in nature,
Where everything lives in interaction,
And where everything brings each other into being,
A new future and space…
Where the perception of scale is in constant change.’’

5 MOVEMENTS, was on exhibition at Hall des Lumières in New York this year. It explores the relationship of human body movements with space and time, using five different types of motion chiseled by five performers, and is inspired by many dances, from traditional tribal and ballet to street style, hip-hop and contemporary.

A condensed version of 5 MOVEMENTS can be enjoyed at Phoenix des Lumières, Dortmund, starting in January 2024.

EVERYTHING, continued to observe everything as it is, questioned all this existence and suggested new possibilities this April as a part of milan.design.week & Milan Art Week at MEET Digital Culture Center.

JOURNEY, an immersive experience telling the story of a photon’s travel through the eye, started the year at Fabrique des Lumières, Amsterdam, and then moved on to Phoenix des Lumières, Dortmund. It will continue its run next year at Port des Lumières Hamburg, starting in April.

JOURNEY, as a 360 experience inside a zeppelin, is also currently part of the Superluminal exhibition at Light Art Museum Budapest, which will be on show until May, 2024.

IN-LINE v2, which gets its inspiration from the horizon line, this time was at Jerusalem Design Week / בית הנסן Hansen House in June.

A 360 version of in-line, IN-LINE v360, attended La Fête des Lumières light festival in Lyon, and will continue to tour France with two more light festivals in 2024, Constellations de Metz in Metz in June, and Chroniques in Aix en Provence in November.

HARMONY, a specially designed piece as a part of Togg2022’s Digital Art Mode, started to be experienced inside Turkey’s first smart device since January.

Van Gogh: An Immersive Journey by Nohlab

Van Gogh’s artworks and life are transformed into an experiential storytelling in four sections, with digital interpretations and futuristic predictions.

SECTION 4
For a futuristic interpretation of Van Gogh’s paintings, not only a custom software categorizes and analyzes more than 2000 Van Gogh artworks, but also unique imageryin his style is generated using AI and various methods.

Color analyses build the color palettes of the 2D and 3D data environments, formed by the many subcategories of his works. Techniques like high-dimensional algorithms andneural networks blend his style with new technology, and unlock many possibilities ofwhere his work could have gone.

Van Gogh, An Immersive Journey premiered at Royal Dublin Society, in May 2022.

Van Gogh: An Immersive Journey by Nohlab

Van Gogh’s artworks and life are transformed into an experiential storytelling in four sections, with digital interpretations and futuristic predictions.

SECTION 3
Observations slowly turn into futuristic interpretations, while we directly land on spatial Van Gogh sceneries and signature paintings. We experience being under a starry night sky or strolling in wheatfields ourselves.

Blended with more abstract scenes, the paintings come alive. The artistic reinterpretations take us into imaginary landscapes, as if creating living paintings in a futuristic environment.

SECTION 1 / 2
The experience begins with a dive into Van Gogh’s subconscious. The journey in his psyche continues, as if Van Gogh shows us the world through his own eyes. His memories that influenced and shaped his artworks slowly unfold.

When he moves to the South “searching for the light,” we follow the light with him. With his perspective, we stroll around the sceneries he saw every day. Or with use of sound design and scenography, the traumatic moments of his life turn into sensory choreographies.

By diving into his subconsciousness, we experience the fragments of his memory through his eyes. We chase the sun with him to the South, and watch him recreate endless scenery through his confinement window.

Through his eyes, paintings turn into living sceneries and futuristic 3D environments. Through artistic reinterpretation, his imagination creates imaginary landscapes, living paintings in which we stroll in.

Finally, a custom software categorizes and analyzes an extensive dataset of Van Gogh artworks, and AI-generated imagery is created with high-dimensional algorithms and neural networks.

Nohlab's immersive experience IN-LINE V2 was exhibited at Hansen House between 22-29 June 2023 as part of Jerusalem Design Week!

Thanks to everyone who accompanied this experience!

More about: nohlab.com/work/inlinev2

IN-LINE V2 is inspired by the natural phenomenon of horizon, and uses LED panels, reflective surfaces on two ends, hazer and sound to turn a limited area into a limitless space and present an everchanging time-space.

The LED panels, are used as light sources rather than displays. This makes light the main element of the installation, turning it into a form of light suspended in air. Pointy light sources in linear flow come together in variable timings and complex forms. These forms derive various possibilities in synergy, letting various patterns come to life. The final structure manifested as a result of this process harbors both the order and the disorder, letting these two concepts call each other into being.

Nohlab's immersive experience "5 Movements" continues at Hall des Lumières , New York!

More about: nohlab.com/work/5movements

"5 Movements" is a 10 minute immersive audiovisual experience, exploring the relationship of human body movements with space and time, using five different types of motion chiseled by five performers. By capturing fleeing phases of performers’ movements in succeeding phases of motion, the emotion and essence of each motion is incorporated in three dimensions. The experience itself connects the dots between traces of movements, a phenomena that human senses are most often unable to perceive in real time.

Inspired by several different types of dance from traditional tribal dances and ballet to street style, hip-hop and contemporary performances, five movements of music unify various beats of the world, including African, Contemporary Classic, Electronica, Instrumental Hip-hop and Asian.

Nohlab’s immersive experience EVERYTHING is selected by Fuorisalone, Italy as the candidate for Special Mention in the Technology category, presented by MEET Digital Culture Center and MNAD (Museo Nazionale Arte Digitale), as one of the highlights of Porta Venezia Design District.
EVERYTHING can be experienced at MEET Digital Culture Center until April 23rd, 2023 within Milan Design Week.

EVERYTHING observes everything as it is, questions all this existence and suggests new possibilities in three parts.

Through the eyes of a candid narrator, who follows the storyline in sync with us, visuals & sound follow a narrative where science, philosophy and metaphysics converge. We observe elements that construct what we call our lives and ways of ascribing meanings to things. This way we can grasp how the vast system of existence enveloping us is prone to many questions.

Shouldn’t we yet start pondering upon what already is? Can we really perceive all there is with our limited senses? Are we at the very end of evolution? Could the system of life we built be not only 0’s or 1’s? Are we held back and entrapped by systems we created? Do we really have free will? Maybe this is only a contingency which our subconscious and evolutionary process carried us to. Shouldn’t we extend the limits of our awareness yet?

What then, could we become? Embracing how much we don’t know might lead us to accept becoming in a constant state of transformation and probabilities. With numerous layers we can neither perceive nor think about with our limited capabilities, there’s still a lot to discover and be fascinated about.
