The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary Society of women educators.
The Society promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. The Alpha Iota chapter is based in Clayton, Fayette and Henry counties in the state of Georgia. Our Chapter is dedicated to providing services to worthy organizations and charities, offering scholarships to members who are furthering their education, and grants-in-aid to college students who are seeking their degree in education.
What a great weekend we had in Augusta at the Delta Hostel!
Please welcome our newest members Barbara, Velmarea, Charity and Dusty! Officers for the next biennium were also installed at the chapter meeting this morning. We enjoyed games of DKG founders bingo and donated breakfast items to Calvary Refuge Center. Members also collected books for free little libraries and enjoyed lunch from Chicken Salad Chick.
What a fun morning supporting literacy!
Delta Kappa Gamma – Alpha Iota chapter (professional honorary society of women educators) had a dramatic guest at their Carmen Sandiego Clue By Clue table—Carmen Sandiego herself!! Thank you ladies for helping Ferst Readers of Henry County advance our mission to strengthen Henry County by providing children and their families with quality books and useful literacy resources at home during the earliest stages of development. Yesterday our Henry County community showed up to celebrate and raise funds so that more young children and their families will own great children’s books and have the tools to develop pre-literacy skills.
We hosted our 15th Ferst Readers Spring Luncheon and attendees were treated to guest speakers, mother/son duo, Surishtha (Sue) and Kabir Sehgal . What a delight they are!

We had so much fun yesterday morning! We enjoyed Christmas carols by Anita, a guest Barbara Sudduth and a wonderful program about healthy living by Cathy Geis. Bonnie was recognized for 40 years of membership and Anita and Cindy for their work in raising $1,130 for the Ferst Readers of Henry County. We brought back the silent auction and raised almost $500 for 4-H camp scholarships. Books were collected for Free Little Libraries and members donated items for Debra's homeless outreach. We decorated tables for the holidays and our friend and caterer Dawn Carter provided a wonderful meal.
Janice (president), Cheryl and Flora enjoyed the Friends of the Library meeting this morning at the new NW branch library. After taking care of FOL business, we heard from 3 local authors and learned about the vast resources available at the library. We collected food for the NW library, board games for Headquarters and books for Free Little Libraries. Members also enjoyed lunch and fellowship.

Alpha Iota had a wonderful chapter meeting yesterday with a tea party theme. We decorated tables and voted for our favorite with cash. The winning table determined the recipient of the funds, which will be Clayton County Friends of the Library. Mr. Willie McDowell presented tips for self defense and the chapter voted to donate gift cards to Clayton County Public School Homeless Department to help families this holiday season.
President Vance Wallace and District III Director Cheryl Goff attended the GSO Executive Board and Membership Meeting in Macon on Saturday.
Dr. Vance Wallace, new chapter President, presided over her first meeting on September 10.
