Downtown Willoughby 5k today!! One of my favorite races in Ohio each year. I'm so happy that many of my friends came out this year to run at this event and hang out afterwards. Ended up with a 16:11 on this course which I thought was going to be shorter so I was annoyed and kinda gave up the last mile. 🤔🎽
Mile splits were 5:18, 5:29, 5:26.
What an experience out there!! This race was much harder than I expected! The trails were quite technical(tougher than mill creek). Luckily, there were some fast road sections. The sun ☀️ came out around half way and it started heating up! We had to carry our own water bottle, which they provided, which I had to stop and fill up at each aid station. Sometimes twice if I wanted to dump some on my head. 💦
I ran with he winner for the first 3 miles then separated in the technical trail after slipping twice. I didn't want to sprain an ankle and be limping around for the next week in Budapest. Sometimes the trail markers were hard to find, I only got lost once though. I saw a marker on a fence post which was locked 🔒, it had 5 steps to climb up and over. I ran partway though a cow field and realized that it wasn't the trail, so turned around back for the road. 🐮 🛣️
Afterwards, we hopped in the lake. It was cold and the sun ☀️ hid behind the clouds for the 15ish minutes we were in there. Layed on the beach for another hour or so then said goodbye to a couple friends(aka race winner and his wife). I went up in the woods to lol for mushrooms but immediately found cranberries And then bilberries, so I spent about an hour picking them since I was hungry and wanted some for oatmeal 😊😁.
10th Boston inn the books!! 💙💛 Unfortunately, i wasn't feeling the best out there. Whether it was a lack of sleep the last 2 nights, delayed flights ✈️ and early mornings, or something else, i decided to dial it back and just have fun out there.
Strava says i ran sub 3, but it's not true. I used the porta potty a couple times!! 😂😂😂
Dad, i know it's been a rough year bouncing from hospital to hospital, from one rehab to another. I'm so thankful that i got to spend Easter with you, as less than 24 hours later you went to heaven. You were such a great example of having trust and faith. I came to you for advice as you had true wisdom. You were well respected by others and I'm thankful for having you in my life.
You married my mom over 30 years, went on 1-2 week camping trips every year when your health allowed. I developed such an appreciation for Canada and nature thanks to you. You will be loved and missed but suffering no more. I will be thinking of you when I run the next week. R.I.P. dad, i love you!
I got the pleasure of running on a 200 meter track for the first time today! 🏃🏻 My plan today was to start with the 3000m , then race the 400m & 200m. This indoor track was open on one end then a wall on the other. Then there were walls on both sides where the bleachers sit. It was an interesting track to run around to say the least.
With a slower than expected 400 in 70 seconds, i had some energy saved up for the 200, 31 seconds.
Luckily, i decide to race the 1600 at the very end and a couple high schoolers raced it too. It ended up being the most tactical race as I started in the back of the pack then slowly made my way up. A group of 3 of us ran the last 400 meters and i passed one with less than 200 to go and got on the other kids shoulder and he picked it up and sprinted far ahead. 🏫
Overall i had a blast out there but wish i hopped in a high schoolers race for either the 200 or 400. I won both heats as i was the youngest in both races. Anyone know any other open track meets? It would be fun to try another this year.
