It was 25 years ago on May 19, 1999 that Sony Japan launch the world's first Super Audio CD player [SCD-1] in the Japanese market. This 2-channel stereo model was designed to unlock the full potential of the Super Audio CD, the paramount audio format, by painstakingly reproducing the full nuance and atmosphere of the original recording.

Well, it took a bit longer to introduce surround sound SACDs and players and I picked up Floyd's DSOTM in 2003, but didn't actually have a player and surround rig set up for another seven years later! I still love the SACD format 25 years on.
