Guys, I'm making my own DIY motorized fader box. Just like those that are ready, but I will make it on my own. I will use MIDI to talk to the device from a vst plugin that I will create. I know about the Mackie protocol. I have used it on an Android device but from what I could tell you are limited to 8 tracks, or banks of 8 tracks. Which is a PITA to work with. I gave up. So now I want to make my own Arduino version using a single motorized fader and some buttons, small Oled Graphical screen and so on.
There will be a plugin that you insert into a track that will handle volume, pan, solo and mute. And another plugin that you can insert AFTER a Compressor, so the device can also show how much compression is going on a track, but comparing Plugin A with Plugin B outputs. ;-)
All that is great. But I was hoping I could find a way to know which is the current track that has been selected on Reaper.
I could just use a track selection up and down from the box, and have another arduino take care of keyboard presses. That works. but as soon as I click on a different track with the mouse the whole thing would be out of sync. ;-)
All is just thoughts for now. Still need to order parts, but first I need to take care of some important stuff around the house. One is my dog that will go under surgery next week. :-o But for now I'm keeping myself occupied with some crazy ideas and also finishing up Wusik Station AD Demonstration files.
Anyway, just venting some ideas for now. :-)

My dog has a problem with the billiard bladder, and it needs to be removed. He's young so surgery should be ok for him. He's a pincher and we truly love him like our own son. Here's a better layout for the Wusik LP4 idea. The red buttons are just LEDs to show the measure/bar of all loops. You can still load smaller loops but the application that uploads the loops to the device will make then longer to fit (if you check a box for that option). I still don't know if I will do this, still thinking about it. ;-) 4 Loops using Pi Picos + MIDI tracks and 8 Sounds. But maybe I will use something else. Cheers!

Wusik LP4 - Free Open Source Hardware Looper

- Can playback 4 stereo 16 bit sounds and have those looped around a master clock;
- Up to 99 Sets. Each set has 4 looped raw files;
- A Windows/MAC Application allows you to manage all sounds into sets and upload to the device;
- The device uses 4 Pi Picos with SD cards arranged into a single double-sided PCB (each pico has its own SD card). I may need a 5th Pico or a simpler Arduino for the interface, buttons, and k***s;
- 16 x 2 LCD for the Menu (I2C);
- Buttons for the menu navigation;
- Each loop is based on a 8 or 4 bar measure, with LEDs to display where it is. Loops are streamed from the SD Card in raw 16-bit stereo format;
- 4 Custom K***s can be assigned to loop volumes, loop crossfades or something else;
- The system always loads up the current set loop + the next set loop. So you can crossfade loops or entire sets using the custom k***s;
- 8 MIDI Tracks that can be looped;
- 8 Custom Sounds (one-shot or looped);
- MIDI Input and Output;
- DC Power Input;
- And more stuff that I will add to the list as I go.
