Originally built in 1650 by Chinese lieutenant Kwee Hoen, the temple was called Koan Im Teng, dedicated to the goddess Kwan Im.

In its long history, this Taoist temple changed names a number of times. In 1740 at the horrific Chinese massacre by the Dutch, the temple was destroyed, but it was again rebuilt in 1755 by Chinese captain Oei Tjhie, who named it Kim Tek Le or Jin De Yuan (meaning golden wisdom).
Later its name was translated into Bahasa Indonesia to become known as the Vihara Dharma Bhakti.

According to the legend that’s being passed down through generations of the Sundanese community, Tangkuban Perahu was created from an upside down boat. The legend says that Sangkuriang fell in love with Dayang Sumbi, who without his knowledge was his own mother. Dayang Sumbi knew that and asked for impossible stipulations if Sangkuriang wanted to marry her.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Sangkuriang eventually failed to meet the requirements. Frustrated by his failure, Sangkuriang was angry and kicked the boat he made himself. The boat all upside down and turned into Mount Tangkuban Perahu.

The National Monument, or Monas (a contraction of its name in Bahasa
Monumen Nasional), was a project of the first President of Indonesia—Sukarno (the Javanese often use one name only). Throughout his turbulent reign, Sukarno sought to bring Indonesia together with tangible symbols of nationhood; as the Istiqlal Mosque was his attempt to unite Muslim Indonesians, the Monas was his effort to create a lasting memorial to the Indonesian independence movement.

The National Museum is the best of its kind in Indonesia and an essential visit. The enormous collection begins around an open courtyard of the 1862 building, which is stacked with magnificent millennia-old statuary including a colossal 4.5m stone image of a Bhairawa king from Rambahan in Sumatra, who is shown trampling on
human skulls. The ethnology section is superb, with Dayak puppets and
wooden statues from Nias sporting beards (a sign of wisdom) plus some
fascinating textiles.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Currently the National Museum houses collections of 109,342 objects
under the categories of prehistory, archaeology, ethnography, numismatics-heraldic, geography and historical relics.
