Philadelphia Light
Philadelphia Light - photograph portfolio from the 70s "Philadephia Light" Photographs 1973 - 1979. As the portfolio progresses I'll post selected images here.
These photographs are from a portfolio I worked on for about 6 years in the streets of Philadelphia. They are a study of light and people in the "center city" of Philadelphia. People captured in a moment of stark sunlight that momentarily transports them to another stream of thought or dimension. I recently found these negatives and while some were traditionally printed decades ago I never was abl

Postcards from Prescott - A Photographic Story
https://www.unkownphotographer.com/postcards-from-precott
This is a photographic story about Prescott, Arizona, taken within one square mile of the city’s center. Prescott was the original capital of the Arizona Territory until it became a state in 1912. Many old buildings have stood for over 100 years as if frozen in time. A new remodel or facelift, but the ghosts of the past unpaved streets seem to lurk in the nightscapes of this old western town. Prescott, in the summer months, becomes a tourist town with visitors from the south coming to the cooler temperatures here in the higher altitudes. Street fairs and other events bring visitors from everywhere. Prescott is like a movie set with actors coming out at night to assume their roles as customers, waiters, waitresses, bartenders, musicians, and lovers. The cinematic long focal length lens flattens the scenes into shallow, two-dimensional frames. Prescott transforms back to a sleepy town waiting for the next summer season when the weather cools and winter approaches.

This region contains IC 410, known as the "Tadpole Nebula". I acquired 210 individual exposures at 5 mins each over the week of Feb 12. Some facts about IC 410: IC 410, also known as the Tadpole Nebula, is an emission nebula located in the constellation Auriga.
Here are some key details about IC 410:
Distance from Earth: IC 410 is approximately 12,000 light years away from Earth. This distance places it well within our Milky Way galaxy, in a region rich with star-forming activity.
Size: The nebula spans about 100 light years across. This vast expanse is typical for emission nebulae, which are large, diffuse clouds of gas and dust illuminated by the light from nearby stars.
Emissions: As an emission nebula, IC 410 glows primarily due to the ionization of its hydrogen gas. The ultraviolet radiation from hot, young stars within the nebula strips electrons from hydrogen atoms, which then emit light as electrons recombine with protons. The predominant emission line for hydrogen in nebulae like IC 410 is the H-alpha line, which gives these clouds their characteristic red glow. Additionally, there might be emissions from other elements such as oxygen and sulfur, which can add green and blue hues to the nebula.
Features and Composition: The Tadpole Nebula is noted for its striking features, including two prominent structures that look like tadpoles, from which it gets its name. These "tadpoles" are actually dense clumps of gas and dust that have been sculpted by the stellar wind and radiation from the young stars within the nebula. These structures are thought to be sites of ongoing star formation, containing protostars within their heads.
Star Formation: IC 410 hosts an open star cluster, NGC 1893, which is very young in astronomical terms—just a few million years old. The intense radiation and stellar winds from the stars in this cluster are responsible for the nebula’s illumination and the shaping of its intriguing features.
Observation: While IC 410 is a fascinating object for astronomers, it requires a telescope to observe due to its distance and faintness. Long-exposure photographs or images taken with specialized filters (such as narrowband filters that isolate the light from specific emission lines) can reveal the complex structure and beauty of this nebula.
IC 410 is an excellent example of the dynamic processes occurring in emission nebulae, showcasing the cycle of star birth and the intricate interplay between stellar radiation and nebular material.
