Have you heard about the NSW Police Next Of Kin (NOK) Program:
The NOK program enables vulnerable people or people living alone to record their emergency contact details with the NSW Police Force.
• The program stores the name of the registered person, their nominated NOK (spouse, children, siblings, friend etc) and/or contact details for an external care provider.
• In an emergency the information assists Police to contact the registered
person's nominated NOK and/or external care provider.
• Each registered person is assigned an individual registered NOK number.
• The NOK program is only accessible to Police and staff working for the police such as police dispatch.
Please consider if this program would benefit you or someone you know.
Joining is simple, just complete the NOK Registration form which you can find:
1. Attached to this post.
2. Pick up from any police station,
3. Download from the NSW police website
4. Or by this link:https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/572394/next-of-kin-program-application-form.pdf
Then either post it or drop it off to any Police Station.

From today, in NSW, coercive control is against the law. This is very welcome news. NSW Government

Decisions were made today about which international service projects would be financially supported in the next biennium. An exciting new project for Zonta is support for expansion of a virtual platform called Laaha which aims to facilitate access to information and services in a way that is safe, culturally appropriate and accessible to adolescent girls and women.
We have committed $750,000 US to this project.

This is very exciting news!
It was a standing ovation for Dianne Leggo, as she was recognised for her long and significant service to Zonta. This includes being instrumental in the charter of 16 clubs both in Australia and internationally!!
Support for Zonta’s work from the Governor of Queensland.
Only a few days left to get the paperwork in.
District 24 has two new clubs!
Long lunches make it possible to do some catching up.
Lots of orange as we joined hundreds of Zontians walking to Southbank, towards the sausage sizzle.
Lots of catching up at last night's District 24 celebration of the 2022-2024 biennium.
Older Women's Network NSW The Older Women's Network NSW aims to promote the rights & dignity of older women.
I’m pretty sporadic on here these days. In part, I’ve been wanting to take a bit of a breather from the public side of life. But I wanted to share a wee project I’ve been working on called Field. It’s a 12 month programme that supports and connects global political leaders who embody political leadership that draws on the strength of kindness and empathy.
Field is hosted by Global Progress, and will create a network of like minded political leaders who use pragmatic idealism, speak to people with hope and optimism rather than fear or blame, and want to unite, rather than divide as we look to solve the challenges ahead.
Our first cohort of leaders will meet in July and come from across Europe but this will broaden over time.
Field is an incredibly humbling, and exciting project to be leading. All part of my ongoing mission to rehumanise leadership, and just be useful! More updates to come. Needless to say, I haven’t quite managed that cup of tea and a lie down just yet...
Congratulations to Natasha Stott Despoja AO, who has been elected for a second term to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The committee is made up of 23 independent human rights experts from around the world, aiming to combat gender discrimination.
Zonta International is currently the only women’s international non- governmental organization (NGO) which focuses solely on CEDAW Articles 1-16 (https://iwda.org.au/assets/files/CEDAW-at-a-Glance.pdf).

Coming up this week is a Zoom event titled “Making waves: Sustainable health solutions for women and girls at the forefront of climate crisis”
Thursday, 30 May 2024 7.00 am-8.30 am
To register: https://www.unicef.org.au/sids4-virtual-side-event
Climate change is not gender neutral. While women and girls bear the brunt of the climate crisis, they are also at the forefront of leading change. The unique rights, needs and perspectives of women and girls must be central to climate policies, investments and actions – particularly in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Across all the SIDS, climate change and biodiversity loss are rapidly exacerbating the social determinants of health, which is felt disproportionately by women, girls and children.
‘Making waves: Sustainable health solutions for women and girls at forefront of climate crisis’ brings together a diverse group of panellists to share their lived experience of climate change in SIDS, the latest research and evidence on the impacts of climate change on the health of women and girls, and to highlight successful approaches to address gendered aspects of the social determinants of health in a changing crisis.
Speakers include youth leaders from the Asia-Pacific region, representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the International Health Advocacy Network, and UNICEF.
From 1 July 2024, there are new laws in NSW about coercive control. Find out about these changes:

A couple of photos from the Area 2 meeting. Lt Governor, Bernie, recognised the service of a number of members which ranged from 10-40 years!
The statistics around women and the criminal justice system can be very disheartening, but key note speaker, Marisa Moliterno, gave attendees at the Area 2 meeting an outline of the Miranda Project which is helping women at risk of both domestic violence and criminal justice system involvement. Some Zonta clubs provide support to this program through the District 24 endorsed project: Keeping Women out of Prison (KWOOP). It was a very enlightening presentation which gave us a much better understanding of the challenges for women in these circumstances.

Area 2 meeting is underway with members engaging in discussion on various topics. It’s great to bring together such collective wisdom!
