Dire Wolf OCR
We seek to tackle any Obstace Course Run we can get our hands on, be it Tough Mudder, Savage Race, Spartan Race, or any number of others.
We take our OCR seriously and want to see how far our name can grow.
2016 I got my ish together, dropped 40 pounds, and ran my first Tough Mudder. The sense of pride within myself and confidence I gained knowing what I was truly capable of ***literally*** saved my life. I was also able to find it within myself to keep pushing forward through awful mental health issues.
Tough Mudder isn't just a brand. It's a community. It's a passion.
I love OCR in general and enjoy checking out others such as Savage Race, but nothing will feel the same as a Tough Mudder. I can't put my finger on why, but it's TM *specifically* that I will choose 10 times out of 10 whenever I can.
This event needs to survive. We will always bleed orange and Tough Mudder will always be home. That's and that's why we need to . It's not too late. Please, TM, don't let it die.
- Josh "Master Woolly" Wohlleben
Dire Wolf took this year off, but the time has come to think about 2020. Thus far, Dire Wolf OCR plans to have representation at:
Tough Mudder in
-Wisconsin (it's returning!)
-Minnesota
-Illinois
-Tennessee
For the moment, just those four are planned, but this is, as always, subject to change. See you out there?
-If you are interested in running with us or spectating at an event, get in contact-
Announcing our 2019 season! This is subject to change and does not currently include the full list:
Tough Mudder-
Michigan 6/15, 6/16
America’s Toughest Mudder Twin Cities 7/13
Indiana 8/3
Chicago 8/24, 8/25
If you want to take the plunge and join us, send either the page or myself (Josh Wohlleben) a message!
IMPORTANT:
True Grit OCR is being renamed. Why, you may ask?
It turns out there is a very popular OCR event in Australia called True Grit. While it would technically still be quote/unquote "okay" to keep the TG name, it feels a bit muddy.
Therefore, we are continuing as Dire Wolf OCR. 2019 dog tags (which will be non-metal because of electricity-based obstacles) will reflect this change.
This past Saturday, True Grit took on Tough Mudder Full in Plymouth, WI. In attendance were Josh, Logan, Ben, Nick, and Adam.
This was Logan's first Tough Mudder, and while he's done a handful of 5ks, he said this was his longest event he's ever done. He absolutely CRUSHED it. Nick, Ben, and Adam got ahead of us on the course, as we expected, so Logan and I powered out the 10 miles from the rear. But try as he might, Logan just could not be stopped. He kept on pushing through, never showing any signs of slowing down. He truly earned his True Grit OCR dog tags this weekend, and damn it if I'm not proud to say I was there for it.
Here's to you, Logan "Warhorse" Garcia. You rocked it!
Want to spectate an event for free??
We are giving away a spectator ticket to Tough Mudder Full in Plymouth, WI on Saturday, September 8th. We will also either pick you up or pay for your parking (by way of reimbursement - parking on site is $20).
This is the first event that will consist of multiple TGOCR members, so it’ll definitely be worth the experience!
To enter, comment below with your favorite color! Open only to residents of WI, IL, MN, or MI.

This is goin down
Tomorrow's an historic (a historic? whatever) day for TGO! Tomorrow, Savage Race Chicago, is the very first OCR event that True Grit will be repped at! I (Josh) am volunteering during the morning and running after. Stay tuned for photos!
OPEN CALL!
Are you ready to get gritty? Maybe you want to do something hard to prove to yourself how tough you truly are.
THIS IS THE SIGN YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR. Send us a message (or directly to me, Josh Wohlleben) and let’s see if you want to join us on a race!
We are open for:
Chicago Tough Mudder 5k (8/25)
Tough Mudder Wisconsin (9/08)
Abominable Snow Race (1/26/2019)
I am ALSO running Savage Race on 7/28, but as I’m volunteering beforehand, there’s no guarantee of us being able to run together, so I’ve left it off.
Just like the hardest obstacles on the courses, committing to doing an OCR event is best done without thinking about it too much first - so don’t hesitate!
We have two more runners repping the True Grit name in the Wisconsin Tough Mudder! Nick and Adam, both long-standing Tough Mudder legionnaires, registered today. If I've got the date right, they've both been on the OCR scene since 2013. They, as well as Nick's brother Ben, are actually the people who got me into Tough Mudder in the first place.
I am pumped to have them joining us in September and can't wait to give them and Logan their TGO dog tags!
September 8: Tough Mudder Wisconsin
Runners: Josh, Logan, Nick, Adam
Although Tough Mudder Twin Cities this past weekend wasn't a TG team event, I have a couple things I want to remark on about it.
The first is this: Lesson learned, personally. It was a hell of a grueling Mudder, the hardest I've experienced thus far. This is due to a combination of A) I didn't train well enough and have been in better shape for Mudders past, and B) this course was just plain harder than I've seen before. Train better, all! Grit can only get you so far!
Now, the meat of the post. There was a member of the team I ran with, a friend of mine, who displayed such undeniable determination and, yes, GRIT, that I decided on the spot deserved to be honored as a member of the Grit Pack.
Ali stuck out the entire event, despite realizing early in it how effing brutal in can be. She crossed that finish line, earned her headband, got her free beer, and showed the true, tough, badass nature needed to prove to herself that she could do it.
We were at a water station when she first started to feel the difficulty of the challenge ahead of her. The heat was making things extra hard, and when asked if she felt like she needed to stop, she just had one response:
"I'm finishing this mother."
After the event, I told her she earned a TGO dog tag and presented her with one - the very first one to have been ever made, in fact. The very one in our header photo.
Welcome to the Grit Pack, Ali. Welcome to official badassery.
-Josh
Slight change of plans! This years True Grit dog tag will not, in fact be green, but silver. Here's why:
When you think of metal, it doesn't come in orange, green, yellow, red, or any color but metal color. Right? Right. So, as this is the first year of TG, what better way to lay a foundation than with the bare color of metal?*
Anybody who runs in an official True Grit OCR team this year will receive one of these bad boys. There's still time! We are doing Savage Race on July 28th (volunteer wave, so you'd have to volunteer as well) and Tough Mudder Wisconsin on September 8th. Shoot us an inbox message! Additionally, Team Captain Josh Wohlleben will be running Tough Mudder Twin Cities this weekend, although he (I) will be running with a different team.
*note: This reason is of course complete crap, and the reality is I wanted to have a TGO dog tag to take to the Mudder this weekend and couldn't find green.
Announcing the True Grit OCR team dog tag! Every team member will receive a TG dog tag before their first race of the year with the intent that it be worn on the run. It will be a different color every year, and 2018s color is....GREEN! If interested in running an event with us, send us an inbox message. Note: We don't travel all that far for the moment, so it's best if you're located in Wisconsin and/or the surrounding area.

Our next event is our first event! Team Captain Josh Wohlleben is volunteering at and solo running Savage Race in Spring Grove, IL on July 28.
The True Grit Pledge
In lieu of any kind of mission statement or anything like that (we’re not a business, after all!) we have come up with a pledge that we symbolically adhere to as members of the True Grit OCR pack. Before each event, we ask everyone running under the True Grit name to recite the pledge, but it IS optional.
I will always have my teammates’ backs.
I will trust my teammates to have my back.
When I reach my goal, I will set a new one.
When that far-away fence gets closer, I will move the fence.
I will never stop pushing myself.
I will never settle.
I will always do my best, and my best will get better.
HOO RAH!
