michael dent was a Grade 10 student attending a suburban Don Mills junior high school back in 1976. He was hanging out in clubs in downtown Toronto when he saw a poster for The Dishes. Already a household word, michael went to see The Dishes at The Bev. He gravitated to Steven Davey because he loved the drums. He hung out at Steven’s house, catching a buzz and getting turned onto all this cool music - Chris Spedding, Deaf School, Alex Harvey, S*x Pistols first 7 inch. Later he helped Steven poster for upcoming Dishes shows. Then one day Steven took michael to see The Diodes rehearse. michael loved this sound, fresh - new - dangerous, he loved it, he heard the first Ramones album and he was hooked. Mohamed (eddie raw), Evan (just evan), Andrew (andy ham) were buddies from school, a year younger and a grade lower. Evan’s brother Mark and his pals had a rehearsal space set up in their parents home across from the junior high school. michael turned his buddies onto punk rock, they dug it too, they decided to form a band and use the gear that was in the basesment. They wrote songs, with michael writing most of the words and Mohamed and Evan splitting the music. Originally they the called themselves The Sneakers. michael originally called himself Johnny Feotus - way before Thirwell. Diodes were opening the FIRST punk club in Canada, The Crash and Burn. michael told The Diodes they had a band. michael asked for a gig and the Diodes said if they had enough songs for a set that they could play there. michael told The Diodes they did (and that was almost true). The band worked hard and they had enough by the time their date came up. The Diodes gave them the opening slot of one of their own gigs. michael and the rest of the Sneakers had to help poster for it. That’s when they found out the poster said The Diodes - Crash and Burn - and introducing The Dents. michael insisted the band was called The Sneakers but Paul Robinson said they didn’t like that name and changed it to The Dents. From then michael became know as michael dent and it’s been that ever side. The Dents were born. They were were the first multi-racial punk band in Canada and the youngest 17-16-16-16 until Eater came along
