His journey began in 1988; upon receiving a total of five Scholastic Art Awards at the Annual Regional High School Art Show held at the Mitchell Museum in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. One of these awards was the “Hallmark Award for Artistic Excellence”; the “Best in Show” award for the entire region. The piece which was chosen for the Hallmark Award is a linoleum block print of the Willis Allen Home. As a result, Shawn was also awarded the Frances McLarken scholarship for the Savannah College of Art and Design.

While a student at SCAD, Shawn opened "Nuovo Art Gallery" in the historic district of Savannah, GA. Featuring his works as well as those of fellow students. Located on historic Bull Street, the location catered to locals and tourists offering works of art from students and locals.

In 1990, Shawn completed the Architectural History Fellowship through the American College of Rome; a three month program that spanned seven cities; Zurich, Milan, Florence, Pisa, Rome, Padua and Venice. The Fellowship offered a focus on restoration of masterpiece works of art and sculpture housed in the gallery as well as the vaults of artwork in storage. During this time Shawn also organized an off campus group show featuring 15 artists and approximately 75 pieces ranging from pastels and painting to mixed media and sculpture.

Since graduating from SCAD, Shawn has continued to work in the art domain; both independently as well as for major corporations. He founded the Vincelette Collection Art Gallery in the Virginia Highlands area of Atlanta, GA (1994); as well as Enunciate Marketing and Design (2001) and Mini Mobile Media (2002). In 2006 Shawn founded Bugaroo Studio where he has produced a wide variety of creative projects. From original works of art to authored and illustrated books, Bugaroo Studio has become the catalyst for exhibiting Shawn’s creative works, while building a brand that encapsulates his talents.
