Vexlum Ltd
Provider of high-brightness semiconductor laser technology for quantum technology and applications requiring high-power and spectral tailoring.
Vexlum team is part of Mapworms EU Pathfinder project. Our versatile laser platform will be deployed for pioneering experiments aiming at demonstrating robotic functions mimicking the marine organisms.
MAPWORMS project aims at the development of 𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙤𝙩𝙨 that are inspired by marine life reacting to external light stimuli.
By combining 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀 with non-reactive elements, actuation units able to transduce stiffness variation into geometrical changes can be developed.
Understanding the ability of morphic materials to respond to light stimuli and achieving 𝒅𝒚𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒆 𝒂𝒅𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 is a central part of the project.
Therefore, having access to light sources that provide 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 to test across a large variety of wavelength and power level parameters is very important to complete the fundamental research aspects of the project.
To this end, Vexlum will deploy its versatile 𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢 based on VECSEL technology and provide laser sources with ability to tune across a wide range of wavelengths.
Such laser systems are rapidly adopted for scientific and industrial use in other areas of fundamental research, including ion-trapping experiments.
