I had never driven off-road before, so dodging mud pits and gopher holes while chasing a herd of bison was a big learning experience, a lot of fun too."

To the Blackfeet people, buffalo are seen as fundamental to a healthy ecosystem. When the European settlers wiped out the buffalo in an effort to eradicate the Blackfeet people, the land suffered, and animals and plant species that survived on buffalo vanished.

'Bring Them Home' tells a story of resilience through the Blackfeet Buffalo Program that not only restored the community's connection to the buffalo, but also to the traditional ecological balance that sustained their way of life for generations.

'Bring Them Home/Aiskótáhkapiyaaya' chronicles a decades-long initiative by members of the Blackfoot Confederacy to bring buffalo, known as iinnii, back to the Blackfeet Reservation and rewild them. A thriving wild buffalo population would not only reconnect the Blackfeet with a central part of their heritage, spirituality and identity, but would also provide economic opportunities and healing for the community. Along the way, however, the initiative faces various challenges including cattle ranching, the legacy of colonization, and more.
