A development based mixed team focused on inclusivity and improvement, looking for players who want to get good at ultimate! Culture is important!
This is a team for players to develop their skills and learn to play ultimate in a more structured way than pick-up or social league. By joining our practices you agree to:
- be inclusive and respectful - the spirit of the game is important!
- be committed to improvement of your own skills and also to improving the team
Please **do not**:
- go around giving unsolicited advice
- providing 'tips'
and extra information during drills and practices - it creates confusion and holds up the practice
History:
The Bay Area Club Ultimate scene is one of the most competitive in the country, and as such, many players can find the tryout process frustrating and demoralizing as they fight for the few spots available. Hard-working and dedicated players are often not given the chance to prove themselves, or to improve themselves, with a club team. It was after one of these intense and competitive tryout processes, over a plate of delicious mozzarella sticks, that the idea for this team was born. How can we include and improve the players around us that want to compete at a high level, but haven't been given the chance? How can we as players improve our skills over the club season in order to have a better shot during this process in coming years? How can we as members of the bay area ultimate community give other players like us the opportunity to go to tournaments, compete, and work on their skill sets as well? Thus, Hot Stix was born, and is based on the principles of Inclusivity, Improvement, and Competition
Inclusivity: NO CUTS. Any hard working and dedicated player has a spot on this team. Playing time will be solely determined by effort. If you show up to events and work hard, you will play. Improvement: On and off the field, this team is about creating strong players and people. Practices and pods will build fundamental play and good habits, while other team activities will nurture spirited team members helping to improve the people around them. We want your hard work to pay off in a way that allows you to make and contribute to higher level club teams in the future. Competition: Playing as a team in tournaments, against some of the premier ultimate clubs and players in the nation, is the most effective way to instill the skills and habits necessary to play at a club level. We plan to attend as many tournaments as possible this season, and, in order to ensure playing time for all players, hope to send more than one team to local tournaments so everyone has an opportunity to compete. So, if you have felt frustrated by the Club tryout process, or are simply looking for an opportunity to improve your ultimate skills, we look forward to working with you so we can all become better players and people!
