FINALLY telling the story behind my self-portrait. It’s been at least three years in the making. I had wanted to keep it to a shorter reel but in the end, I just couldn’t tell the story in 90 seconds so here it is.
Ready for thread! Can you name all the native Texas hill country birds??
More sunflowers and and little details and I have a plan for some birds…stay tuned!
As promised, here are the details photos on my donkey piece. I just love how this turned out. You can’t really see the gold thread in the sun, but it makes it sparkle just a little bit. I think I enjoy doing animals most of all because they have such little personalities when you finish stitching the faces. This will be in the gallery tomorrow!
Blue satin variegated thread for the sky. I start with the background largely for technical reasons, but I also love how it helps the subjects in the foreground start to take shape.
Cotton field has been added! Time for all the thread!
Well this one is already sold and with its new owner! A lovely previous customer of mine felt a connection to “Stormy Skies” and drove up from San Antonio to buy it at Carriage House Gallery and I’m so thrilled! Thank you, Laura!! I hope it brings you lots of joy.
He’s coming along!
Sunshine combined with my desire for peace. Can’t get much better than that!
Working on some smaller pieces! These are 10”x10”. Time to add thread. 🧵 The Peace Sun is a new concept. We’ll see how it turns out!
This piece is coming out of the display window tomorrow and will be back up for sale! I love the story of the monarch butterfly. I can’t even talk about the migration without getting choked up… Ha ha. But true!
This is around 8 x 10 and is $150.
Good morning from my little octopus friend! I am working at Carriage House Gallery today and he is going to hang with me. So stop by if you’re in the area and say hello! Also, I just love the red coloring on this one. I almost went with cool ocean colors but I love the contrast.

Throwback to a favorite! I thought the sand dollar batik for this lions face was really fun. Lions are another favorite subject of mine. I have to revisit that soon.
Experimenting with a few ideas for patches. Thought I would start with this owl because that’s the mascot here in Hondo. Took a while to get the proportions right but it’s ready for stitching and so far I’m really happy with how it turned out.
Patches! This photo came up in my memories today from a few years ago and it’s very timely because patches have been on my mind to do again. I saw a very cool owl design the other day, and since Hondo’s mascot is the owl, it inspired me to design one for me to wear to games and such. Which led me to thinking about lots of other designs! So stay tuned… And if you have an idea for a fun one, let me know!
In the gallery today and I get to stare at this woman. She always makes me think. Grief is such a big part of life.

Took my sewing machine to today and was able to finish this guy! I’m too tired tonight to wax poetic about it but I love it and he’s already hanging in the gallery so stop by and see him in person and/or take him home!

My bobbins. I used to think I needed to fill a bunch with the same color before starting the quilting on a project. But I don’t! I’m the artist….I can do what I want! Haha. And sometimes I like to empty all my bobbins and see what happens on the back. So stay tuned because the back of the octopus is gonna be a “see what happens” kinda thing!
It has been a crazy time with art shows, and end of the school year events! I realized I never posted the finished mermaid. It actually sold at the art show in Dallas the night that I first hung it up! I love her she turned out and will probably do another one soon.
In the craziness of the art show this weekend, I didn’t share newest wildflower piece! I love how all the different fabrics and tons of thread give life and movement to this piece. It will be available in this week!
Happy Mothers Day!! SPOT ON! 🤣
