I’ve had so much fun so far and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the week.

Still places on our summer swim week

04/07/2023

We still have a couple of weeks of lesson left but I thought I’d share my thoughts prior to is breaking up for the summer.

I am lucky in that I am also at Quantock Lodge on a Sunday to see family swim in action. During the last year I’ve had the pleasure of watching many of you enjoying your skills in a fun filled family setting.
I hope that all the children have fun in lessons but swimming as a family is just as important. It reinforces skills, it allows younger children to learn from their siblings, parents, grandparents and carers.
Those of you who swim with us will recognise that we teach through play with our younger pupils and with our older pupils with imagination often challenging swimmers in a safe and fun atmosphere. They are still lessons though, there is an expectation of progression. Family swimming holds no such expectations and to my mind never should.
The removal of those expectations actually encourages learning but makes it totally child centred and led. A child who has never submerged in lessons may well find the bravery to jump in with a parent or sibling. It doesn’t matter how you get your learning. Sinkers and pool toys come into play. I have a story of a child who was scared to put his face in pre holiday and, after picking up pound coins thrown in to the pool for him by Grandad during said holiday, proudly displayed his newly found skill in his next lesson. Again it doesn’t matter how you get your learning.
For those not going away, I gained half my water confidence from a tiny little inflatable paddling pool in the garden. We used to scuba dive in it (don’t ask me how) and it was the first place I regularly put my face in the water.
Please stay safe though, acknowledge your child’s ability and if you need to use floatation aids to stay safe, use them. Our last week of lessons will have a theme of water safety where we hope to develop the skills we have already taught around water safety. We are happy to answer any of your questions around this and Colin is available on poolside every week, please ask he has a wealth of knowledge.
As we gear up towards the summer break I just wanted to send you encouragement and I really look forward to welcoming our swimmers back in September with their newly discovered skills/confidence.
You’ve got this ❤️

NO SWIMMING TOMORROW 17th.
A first for everything? I went down with a really nasty cough last weekend, it got worse and I can't throw it off - I am unable to teach! Jamie is still quite rough too.....so, sorry - we have made the decision to cancel this Friday swimschool and obvs credit everyone next half term.
I'll email as well but if you can let any other families know.......Thanks
Again, really sorry and banking on full recovery for next week.

I highly recommend. I really enjoy these courses.

16/07/2022

I highly recommend the summer course!

Sadly, next week is our last week this term. Sad because as you know, each week before we go home, our teachers share stories of all those children who earlier, did something amazing or who just suddenly 'got it' and everything fell into place.
Last night was no exception. The list of achievements and success just goes on. That's the buzz we get !!!
Several people have asked about a summer course again this year.
We are thinking about mornings, say from 10am, the week beginning the 1st August.
If you are interested please get in touch soon.
If we have enough we will check the timetable with Duncan and book the pool.
Let us know.
Meanwhile, hope to see as many of you who can make it next week.
Jamie, Vicki and Colin
