Do you feel confident that you would be able to react quickly during a household emergency or issues caused by severe weather?

Over the course of September we’re sharing advice and information on a range of topics as part of our first Resilience Month.

There will be information on everything from creating your own household emergency plan to registering for alerts from the organisations that support us when a crisis occurs.

As a starting point, why not download our ‘30 Days in 30 Ways’ checklist which you can follow day by day this month, or at any time of the year? You’ll find it, along with other information and resources at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/resilience-month

SHARE – The Scottish Health Research Register and Biobank - is a Register of people who are happy to be sent information about health projects.

We need healthy people and people with health conditions to join SHARE. Health research is necessary so new treatments can be discovered for conditions and disease such as cancer, diabetes, dementia, stroke and asthma.

When you join, we may occasionally send you information about research projects that might be of interest to you. This might involve taking part in online surveys, sharing your views on your healthcare or taking part in a study researching a new medication for an illness you may have. You can decide if you would like to take part when you find out more about the study.

Would you be willing to display posters in your buildings and offices, to help promote SHARE to your staff and members of the public? If you can help, please get in touch at [email protected].

People can register in a number of ways:

Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership (AHSCP) is reviewing its Adult Carer Strategy - the plan of what it does to support adult carers.

Your views are important in helping identify what is being done well and how support to adult carers can be improved over the next five years.

To take part, visit https://engage.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/adult-carers

AHSCP want to engage with adult carers, those supporting them and anyone with an interest in supporting adult carers. This survey is for adult carers.

An adult carer (sometimes referred to as an unpaid carer) is anyone aged 18 and over who cares for a family member or friend due to illness, disability, mental ill-health, alcohol or drug dependency. The adult carer may look after the cared-for person on their own or they may be helped by others.

If you would like to be entered into the draw for a chance to win an Amazon voucher, please provide your contact email or phone number at the end of the survey.

This survey will take about 10 minutes to complete and will close at 11.59pm on October 6.

Aberdeenshire Council is expanding opportunities for reuse at household recycling centres so that more pre-loved items can be rehomed by a local charity.

Additional reuse containers are now in place at Banchory, Laurencekirk, Macduff, Peterhead, Portlethen, and Stonehaven household recycling centres to complement the containers already in place at Ellon and Peterhead.

Pre-loved items donated through the containers are safety and function checked, then upcycled or processed by a local charity for resale. This creates more opportunities for people to access affordable, high-quality products with far less carbon impact than buying new.

The following cared-for items are now accepted for local charities via the reuse containers:
▪ Furniture with fire-retardant label
▪ Electrical items with all parts and plug
▪ Sports equipment
▪ Bric-a-brac/general household items
▪ Garden furniture and equipment
▪ Footwear
▪ Toys

The charities that will service and benefit from the containers are Stella’s Voice for Ellon, Macduff, Peterhead, Portlethen, and Stonehaven household recycling centres and Magpie for Banchory and Laurencekirk.

Aberdeenshire Council welcomed £37,095 in funding for the new containers through the Scottish Government’s Recycling Improvement Fund Small Grant Scheme, administered by Zero Waste Scotland.

Pictured from left to right are Cllr Sarah Dickinson, Cllr Isobel Davidson (ISC Vice Chair), Cllr Alan Turner, and Cllr Jim Gifford (SC Vice Chair), all supporting the reuse scheme, posed with the first items to enter the first of the newly delivered containers in Stonehaven.
