4. Helps the veteran feel safe and protected
5. Can help the veteran get back into social lifestyles/activites.
Good evening, everyone. I am introducing something to you all that I have been working on for a while. After realizing dog training needed a back seat, I began praying because I kept getting burnt out. God gave me a LOVE for animals and a HUGE heart... but where does that need to be utilized?
God gave me a vision, and at first, I thought, "Animal Rescue." so I prayed more about that.. and my mind kept pushing me to the side as if that was not enough. Then, my mind ran over to how I could also serve people. Immediately, I thought about the homeless veteran community.
After praying about this for several months, God gave me a vision. I am starting a non-profit homeless veteran transitional program that also incorporates canines. We aim to allow these veterans to live in a tiny house with an animal kennel on the property. These veterans will have access to programs that can assist them, give transportation to and from appointments, and retrain in the workforce. These veterans can select their canine companions and learn how to train with them. They will also be responsible for caring for their companion with the non-profit's support, ensuring they get their assigned food on time and have access to clean, continuous water.
We hope to see a decline in homeless veterans by providing this program to these veterans. According to research, owning an animal companion can improve cardiovascular health, reduce stress, lessen feelings of loneliness and depression, and encourage social interactions among individuals. Doing this will benefit these veterans' mental health and give them a sense of direction and motivation to keep improving.
