The group is a safe space for LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees to connect, make friends and share experiences.

So, I said once I had QueerCon out the way I’d update you on my next project….

….I’m in the process of trying to acquire a business premise to open Swansea’s only LGBTQIA+ Community Hub QAF Swansea

Coming late 2024/2025!

No, we’re not going to be a “gay bar” - we know that Swansea’s Queer Community want more from a venue. So we’re going to be:

🩷 A coffee shop/cafe bar
🤍 A social space for groups, organisations and events
🩵 A retailer of indie queer business products

We’re currently in discussions about a few venues. Once we have located and signed for a suitable venue, we’ll give you more details so an eye on our socials for more details 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

What does this mean for SwanScene??

Nothing! SwanScene will still carry on as is. We’re currently bringing volunteers onboard to help with some of the social media stuff, with longer term plans to bring trustees on board and turn SwanScene into a charity.

This is probably the biggest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but I’m excited and ready for the challenge!

We’re approaching our 2nd anniversary. What started off as a small idea when we launched has grown and grown into the community platform we are today - WHICH IS AMAZING!!

It’s now grown to the point that it’s not sustainable for one person to manage anymore. So we’re EXCITED to say looking for some volunteers to come onboard as social media co-ordinators, and help us continue to grow our platform.

Working alongside our founder and community engagement manager, successful volunteers will be helping maintain a shared calendar with details of upcoming community events and updating the weekly newsletters using Canva.
