As our dedicated Level III nursing students participated in the Seminar on Perioperative Nursing, hosted by the UNP-CN, last August 19, 2024, at the UNP Tadena Hall, they took a crucial step towards arming themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills before they face the uncharted depths of the operating room (OR).
Day 1 was opened properly by the inspirational remarks given by the dean of the College of Nursing, Dr. Francis Don L. Nero, setting the stage for the interactive lecture facilitated by several clinical instructors with abundant experience and knowledge in the special field of perioperative nursing. Finally, Prof. Sheila G. Obispo, Level I Coordinator, capped this seminar with a motivational speech and some final reminders that left our nursing students in anticipation of what lay ahead.
The next day, August 20, 2024, was designated for Skills Enhancement to better prepare our student nurses and somehow lessen their "operating room anxiety." Now with enough knowledge, skill, and right attitude, the Level III students are ready in their scrubs as they set foot into the OR.
Scrubs on and ready, future nurses! The adrenaline, learning, and challenges of the OR await.

UNP Panangsarabo Festival 2024: Nursing Students Stand out Rain or Shine
The University of Northern Philippines is filled with excitement during the Panangsarabo Festival 2024 held last August 12, 2024 with the theme, "UNPians Sangsangkamaysa a Mangitunda iti Balligi.โ
The festival featured various activities, including amusement booths located beside the Student Center and a food fair at the Founder's Plaza. Under the blazing sun, the Nursing Students Organization took charge, manning booths with smiles, showcasing their dedication in leadership.
The Nursing Students Organization prepared the "Bingo Student Nurse Edition" and a photobooth located at the Science Complex, both of which were an โI know a spotโ among the students.
At the UNP Grandstand, the Freshie Yell Competition and a raffle were the dayโs main attractions. The freshmen nursing students delivered an overwhelming performance during the yell competition, rallying their peers with enthusiasm. Even after their performance, they remained active participants. However, the highly anticipated Pananangsarabo Festival 2024 was cut short due to the sudden downpour, leading to the cancellation of most of the events, including the Mini concert, Bingo Bonanza, and the most awaited raffle draw.
Despite the weather, the Level 1 nursing students managed to make a lasting impact with their performance during the first portion of the yell competition that took place before the rain. Adorned in green and gold sashes and tassels, the nursing students showcased their well-rehearsed yell routine. Their vibrant colors and coordinated movements plus the clarity and the impact of the voice brought a burst of energy to the competition, embodying the festival's theme even as the rain began to fall.
The remainder of the yell competition and other postponed events are expected to be rescheduled, allowing the UNP community another chance to come together and celebrate once the weather clears.
The annual Panangsarabo Festival will be remembered not just for the unexpected weather changes, but for the way these freshmen nursing students rose to the occasion, proving that with coordination and determination, success is always within reach โ no matter the challenges.
