A question came in from a gentleman looking for answers
What happened to the "Trent River Pioneer Village?"This village had 14 buildings. Any chance the Village amalgamated with Keene Pioneer Village?

Unfortunately, for those who have yet to receive one, we've depleted our current stock of lawn signs.

At present another order isn't planned, but if more become available, we will let everyone know.

As a shared initiative, celebrating our Village’s 150th Anniversary, the Hastings Historical Society and Hastings Revitalization Association asked Hastings Public School students to put pencil to paper and illustrate exactly what Hastings meant to them.

The result was this unique collage, featuring students personal and creative depictions.

Display your community spirit and join the celebration while, at the same time, lending your fundraising support to local initiatives.

To pre-order a t-shirt (or two, or three, or more), simply e-mail your name, address, number of shirts required and sizes to [email protected].

T-shirts are comfortably priced at $25 each.

Thanks so much for your support.

Happy Anniversary Hastings!

Happy Anniversary Hastings!

It seemed most appropriate that commemorating our past be entrusted to those who will ultimately shape our future.

As a shared initiative, celebrating our Village’s 150th Anniversary, the Hastings Historical Society and Hastings Revitalization Association asked Hastings Public School students to put pencil to paper and illustrate exactly what Hastings meant to them.

A unique collage, featuring these personal and creative depictions, was assembled and proudly displayed on t-shirts which, in appreciation, were gifted to students and faculty members.

In the days and weeks ahead, this same colourful graphic will be featured prominently on lawn signs, banners and storefront posters.

Not unexpectedly, a common refrain upon viewing the t-shirts for the first time has been “where can I get one?”

In answer, as a show of community spirit, and as a fundraising effort for community initiatives, we are now accepting pre-orders.

Simply e-mail your name, address, number of shirts required and sizes to [email protected].

T-shirts are priced at $25 each.

Happy 150th to us all!

June 5th 2024 Presentation Meeting

With last week’s stirring and informative presentation by Chief Shawn Jameson, members of the Hastings Historical Society (HHS) came away with an even greater appreciation and respect for our local Trent Hills fire department and the daily struggles they encounter and overcome.

In addition to sharing professional insights and historic accounts, Chief Jameson generously invited residents to stop by and tour the new fire department in Campbellford.

During the Annual Meeting portion of the evening, Mary Sullivan enthusiastically highlighted the considerable progress the HHS has made over the past year, along with identifying future goals.

Illustrating a unified show of appreciation, Historical Society Certificates were awarded to past directors Fred and Pauline Graham, as well as to Mary Crate and Anna Shapiro for their tireless volunteer work.

In conclusion, a special thanks to Lady B’s Bistro for providing a large tray of delicious baked goods.

Please note, our next HHS Presentation is scheduled for September.

Have a great summer.

"The Story of an Artifact". The Quilt Project-1945

Informative and entertaining; Jennifer Breckenridge took us on her journey, of sourcing missing information that helped her complete most of the names on the quilt. She has uploaded this information to our system for our future use.

Wendy Hilbourn originally rescued and restored the quilt and completed some of the names. She donated this quilt to the HHS which is a priceless gift that we are so grateful for.

We also had on display a large fabric Hastings Centennial wall hanging with illustration of building done by Maudie Ewart in 1974.

A lot of names on both artifacts were known by the members of the audience who recognized family members and friends and neighbours.

Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to Jennifer Madden our Hastings Librarian and to Jennifer Breckenridge a volunteer researcher.

And finally a thank you to Bridgewater Cafe for the great selection of cookies donated and to everyone who attended or volunteered making this evening such a success.

Another interesting night. So looking forward to hearing about Jennifer Breckenridge's research adventure.

The inaugural Induction Gala, into the Trent Hills Sports Wall of Honour, is being held on Saturday May 11th between 1pm and 5pm at the Warkworth Arena.

The afternoon begins with a social hour at 1 o’clock, which will include catered food (sandwiches, cheese, vegetable trays, pickles, assorted fruit and cake).

There will also be a cash bar open throughout the afternoon, and a memorabilia section featuring items from each of this year’s inductees will be on display to help showcase their accomplishments.

The induction ceremony will take place between 2pm and 4pm, during which the honourees will receive a plaque (donated by Campbellford Chrysler), along with a certificate of congratulations from Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini.

The Sunny Life Recreation and Wellness Centre in Campbellford will be home to the Trent Hills Sports Wall of Honour when it opens later this year and will feature replica plaques of all the inductees.

The Trent Hills Wall of Honour Advisory Board, which was formed in 2023 under the leadership of Chairman Jim Peeling of Campbellford, and in association with the Campbellford-Seymour Heritage Society, officially announced the Class of 2024 inductees in January.

-- 1948-49 Hastings Midgets hockey team, in the Team Category, for its memorable and historic all-Ontario championship season in Hastings’ new arena.

-- 1972-73 Warkworth Juvenile hockey team, in the Team Category, for capping a storybook season by winning Warkworth’s first-ever Ontario Minor Hockey Association all-Ontario championship.

-- 1973 Campbellford Midgets softball team, in the Team Category, for its phenomenal season, which culminated in the first Ontario Amateur Softball Association provincial championship in Campbellford history.

There are only 250 tickets available for the induction ceremony, which is a fundraising event to help offset expenses for the gala and for future THSWOH events.

For those wanting to attend, tickets are $20 each.

There is no charge for kids 12 and under.

Tickets are available from the following THSWOH committee members:

(Campbellford: Jim Peeling, Pat Sheridan, Eunice Stapley.
