The only way to make the future today is if we make it happen
If you identify as an ally you don't understand what it means to be an ally.
If you have one of those ally social media pictures most marginalized people will see it as a red flag and sign you haven't done the work to understand what allyship is.
They will recognize that you probably won't be in the lynch mob coming after them, but you also probably won't be standing between them and the mob.
Ally is not a title we get to bestow upon ourselves.
Ally is not something we will always be.
We might be an ally or accomplice in one marginalized person's eye's while having irreparably failed another.
We can try to be the best allies and accomplices we can. We can work to always try to be better and do better. We can say we want to be good allies and accomplices and we should always work to do that in actionable ways. Even doing the best we can we might win some days and lose others. We might be an ally in one moment and an epic failure in another.
To claim the status of ally ignores the work it takes to be an ally. Work most who identify as ally have never even started.
To claim the status of ally ignores our failures and those we have let down.
The only lens through which being considered an ally is valid or relevant is through the eyes of someone with a disprivilege appreciating your support in an area where you are privileged and use that privilege to fight for those who are not.
It is only valid between you and that individual. It is not a certification. Being considered an ally by one person does not mean you are an ally to their community or anyone else in that community.
You cannot go around and get 10 signatures from that community to be considered an accredited ally to that community.
One person in that community acknowledging your allyship to others in that community will likely gain trust and respect but whether you are seen as an ally or accomplice or not can only be determined by how they see you. Not by how you see yourself.
I cannot determine whether, how, or when I am an ally or not.

While you can't generally do much to change the mind of a conservative, libertarian, liberal or anyone else who supports capitalism, I have found a pretty amazing tool in the toolbox when discussing, debating, or trying to show how looney tunes their arguments are is pointing out that almost every pro capitalism argument can be turned into a pro feudalism and divine right of kings argument.
"Well capitalists take the risk so they deserve the reward"
Well the king has all the wealth, owns the land, supplied the equipment, owns the supply chain. They took the risk to invest in the means of production so of course they deserve to keep most the value I produce.
"Capitalism is voluntary. If a worker isn't happy with pay or working conditions they can just go find another job somewhere else".
Being a serf or peasant is voluntary. If a peasant isn't happy with their pay, working conditions, etc, they could just move to another kingdom.
"Workers are free to negotiate things like pay and working conditions with their employer to come to a compromise that works for everyone."
Peasants can collectively stand up against their king to negotiate things like pay and working conditions to come to a compromise that works for everyone.
Anyone who makes these kinds of arguments is essentially arguing that there was no reason to even transition to capitalism. If they feel this way about capitalism then feudalism would have worked just as well for them if not better.
At least under feudalism if you are unhappy enough with your conditions to revolt you are only revolting against the state, wheras if you are unhappy with your job under capitalism you are taking on one oppressive system that holds extreme power against you that is backed up by the power of the state. If you declare war you are declaring war on two fronts. If you try to lead a revolution against your employer the state will defend your employer so the only way to even do a revolution would be to collectively take on all employers and the state. Most workers aren't willing to take the risk of doing that which is proof in itself of the power your employer has over society.
If Colorado was a map of the political compass.
Republicans believe they live in Fairplay
Democrats believe they live in Paionia
Libertarians believe they live in Fairplay.
Myself and most of my lefty trending more anarcho friends believe they live somewhere between Cortez and Grand Junction.
Dems believe Republicans live in Holyoke
Dems belive Libertarians live in Denver
Dems belive me and my lefty friends live on the West side of Paionia.
Republicans believe Dems live in Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge
Republicans believe Libertarians live in Antero Junction
Republicans believe me and my friends are co**ie Dems living in Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge when they are practically neighbors
Libertarians believe Republicans live in Walden
Libertarians believe Dems live in Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge when they are practically neighbors
Libertarians believe me and my friends are co**ie Dems living in Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge
Republicans actually live in Holyoke
Democrats actually live in Fort Morgan
Libertarians actually live in Idalia
I live in Cortez
Dems think we are neighbors and always ask me to drive to them thinking it’s a few blocks when it’s a trip across most the state to meet them in Fort Morgan, then tell me we need to drive halfway to meet Republicans halfway in Sterling and when we finally get there Dems spend all their time talking to Republicans completely ignoring me, my friends and any marginalized folks who bother to show up.
If I ever ask Dems to come to me they freak out because there is some rift, time portal, edge of the world, situation going on because they think we are neighbors until they actually try to even meet me halfway.
Dems and Republicans act like they live on opposing sides of the state when they are practically neighbors. Meanwhile Dems don’t understand why I see them in a similar light as they see Republicans when they are an hour drive away from Republicans and I am an 8 hour drive away from Dems.
Dems think I should always come to them and join their party when it seems way more logical they join the Republicans and give our side of the state just one party.

Economics is not a science; it’s a story: what the wealth tax debate tells us about the bias of economists There's a gap between the economic theory we teach and the reality of economics. It shows a neoliberal narrative.

This really gets to the point of what I have been working on lately. I don't think most people pay much attention to socioeconomics but it lies at the heart of all these problems we are facing right now. People are looking at climate change, deforestation, species extinction, plastic in the oceans, etc as problems that need to be addressed but they are all symptoms of the same one problem that is the main driver in creating them. We need to start paying attention to socioeconomics and figure out what replaces Capitalism before it's too late.

Deadly Shooting at California Synagogue—Where is the Gun Violence Research, CDC? This weekend I learned that my hometown of Poway, California, a sleepy suburban city just north of San Diego, was the location of a violent shooting at a Jewish synagogue. A 19-year old walked into a synagogue armed with an AR-type assault rifle and began firing on Jewish people who were gathered to
