The Thingborg-group got reward from Erasmus+ today for taking part in BOTH, as a superb European project. These photos are from the Museum of Asmundur Sveinsson in Reykjavik where we got the reward. As shown on the award picture we got, the handcraft people that took part in the project, built a bridge between the three countries, so we also dedicate these reward to our good friends in Scotland and Slovakia.

Recreating clothes from the Iron Age 25/11/2014

Great article - sent to me by a Romanian colleague, Gligor Adrian Borza.... http://www.heritagedaily.com/2014/11/recreating-clothes-from-the-iron-age/105668. Be a great project for Þingborg Ullarvinnsla ?

Recreating clothes from the Iron Age A few years ago, the oldest known piece of clothing ever discovered in Norway, a tunic dating from the Iron Age, was found on a glacier in Breheimen. Now about to be reconstructed using Iron Age textile techniques, it is hoped the tunic will inspire Norwegian fashion designers.

Also found this - from a project we did years ago - 'Fashion-by-the-Lake' - very pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood - the young lady is from Germany - the picture is by Bassenthwaite Lake, which has the town of Keswick at one end 'Cheese Farm' from the Old Saxon language - in Cumbria we have many Saxon as well as Norse heritage

Sorting through pictures today and looked again at the Icelandic sheep gather - Great spectacle - lots of 'marguerite' patterns (Nordic star) - in Turkey (lady in knitted skirt - top right) they call the design 'Star of freedom). Thanks to Jay Allison's partner for this interesting snippet !

I always had mixed feelings about tattoos.... A few years ago I asked my daughter Lois, if she would like a new dress, when she was visiting me in Cyprus - "I'd rather have a tattoo was her reply" - I agreed as long as I could attend - it was fascinating and the guy (in Larnaca) very skillful.

Last year with my son Fian, we called at Crosslanes to meet my good friend Peter Coverdale and met this young lady - tattooed with everything to do with her passion .... needlework and embroidery - WOW!

Our latest project in Cyprus is to design an 'oak leaf & acorn' pattern for the village of Kato Drys - the 'drys' is Greek for 'oak' and the Community Council want to promote the association of the village with oak trees - the Forest Service helps by providing free oak trees for us to plant. This picture shows some elements we use in the design process
