Tina Donnelly took office as High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan on 11 April 2019.
Jon Wall took office as High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan on 6 April 2018.
Born in 1961, Jon was raised in Nottage, Porthcawl. He attended Nottage Primary School, and also West Park primary school,Porthcawl Comprehensive School, and then studied Pharmacy at University of Portsmouth. He qualified as a pharmacist in 1985 and worked for Boots the Chemist before starting his own Pharmacy business in 1990 when he took over Roy Jones Chemists Ltd. In 1997, he realised a childhood dream by opening a branch in his home town of Porthcawl, where he had the thrill of having his mother and father work alongside him in the business.
During the period 1990-2003, Jon was actively involved in pharmacy governance, and was a member of the health board’s pharmaceutical committee for 12 years. He was also invited on to the Alliance Unichem advisory board as the member for South Wales and the West of England. In September 2003, he sold the pharmacy business to The Co-op and decided to have a career change, joining as a director of Wales’ largest golf travel company. Whilst there he assisted in raising the profile of golf in Wales to assist the bid for the Ryder Cup in 2010. Golf continued to be a theme when he joined Lakeside Driving Range as a partner in 2010. Jon is still a qualified pharmacist, and when time allows he undertakes locum work in the independent sector. In April 2018, the day after his declaration as High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan, Jon launched a new business venture with his son Ben, namely Wall 2 Wall Wines, which is a specialist wine retailer. Currently there are two outlets in operation with a hope for more in the near future.
Since 2015, Jon has been a member of the High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan Youth Community Awards Panel, and in 2018 became a trustee for the South Wales Police Youth Community Trust. For his year in office, given his longstanding interest in and concern for young people, Jon is working to raise funds for the National Crimebeat Charity.
2017-18 David Davies JP
David Davies took office as High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan on 7 April 2017. Born in 1958, David was raised in Aberfan, in the family farmhouse where he lives once again today. David attended Pantglas Junior School, Aberfan (where he was a seriously injured survivor of the Aberfan Disaster, 1966), Afon Taf High School, Troedyrhiw, and then studied law at University of Wales Aberystwyth and Downing College, Cambridge University. He qualified as a Solicitor in 1983 and worked for the international law firm Linklaters & Paines in their London and (as manager) Brussels offices, specialising in EU and competition law.
On returning to Wales in 1994, after taking a sabbatical David took up various roles in the voluntary sector. He was a board member of Caerphilly-based United Welsh Housing Association from 1998 to 2012, including 7 years as Vice Chair. David was appointed a magistrate in 1999 and serves on what is now the Mid Wales Bench at Merthyr Tydfil where, until his appointment as High Sheriff, he was Chair of the Youth Panel and also a member of the Domestic Violence Panel. He represents Youth magistrates on the Wales Youth Justice Advisory Panel.
Since 1998, David has been a Trustee of The Aberfan Memorial Charity (and the related Education Charity), which he has chaired since 2000 and, as such, oversaw the commemorative events in 2016 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan Disaster.
From 2014-18, David was a member of the High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan Youth Community Awards Panel. For his year in office, given his longstanding interest in and concern for young people, domestic violence and housing issues, David decided to adopt as his main charity Llamau, which works with survivors of domestic violence and young homeless people in Wales.
