9 Days From My Window In Aleppo +Movies

One morning in August 2012, renowned Syrian photographer Issa Touma saw young men lugging sandbags into his street. It turned out to be the start of the Syrian uprising in the city of Aleppo. Touma grabbed his camera and spent nine days holed up in his apartment, recording what was happening outside. An unprecedented glimpse into a war that has been raging for three years now.

This is my response to photographer Issa Touma's presentation at NYU Florence's La Pietra Dialogue series.
About the talk : at Despite opportunities to escape the violence and instability in Syria today, world renowned photographer Issa Touma remained in his native city Aleppo to document the daily lives of the city’s inhabitants amid the difficulties of war and to help counterbalance the violence of the insurgency. Touma’s Le Pont Gallery has remained open and the program he launched Art Camping has organized art workshops for the community. Touma will talk about the importance of art as a form of resistance and hope in the face of war. Oct 21, 2015

تباسط الشبان الثلاثة في سرد انتقائي لحيواتهم الشخصية، التي اضطرتهم إلى تفسير بعض وقائعها للانتقال إلى أنماط التربية التي نقلها إليهم آباؤهم ومحيطهم العائلي.
وجدوا بين أطلال المدينة المدمرة مكانًا لحواراتهم، لخلوها من السكان، وبعدها عن الرقابة.
حاول الفيلم، في خمس عشرة دقيقة، رصد بعض التحولات التي حصلت لثلاثة شبان: "إيفا"، و"سارة"، و"عبد"، هم في منتصف العشرينات من أعمارهم، من مواليد أواخر التسعينيات من القرن الماضي، ونشأوا في سنوات الحرب.

Sarah and Abd ultimately do not seek their future in Aleppo. They leave to build a new life elsewhere. Eva stays behind, she tries to make simple dreams come true. The first is learning to ride a bike. Girls who ride bicycles are a rarity in Aleppo. “To me, these girls have the courage of the heroes of the legends,” she says as she nervously ventures out onto the street with her bike for the first time.

Yesterday before going to bed I remembered such a pseudo story, but before I start telling it, the intro: I like all kinds of coincidences, unexpected selected strangers wanting to chat, Russian doctor on the Istanbul ferry, deciding my heart will be kle, Kalvarijai market latters, explaining that I have to open up to life, or a woman chasing me in Baltupiai, asking for a haircut of her cat. Taking it back to the start. 2011 (ish) I was completely stuck in discovery of the Middle East, so scrolling through facebook I found some photographer from Syria and we chatted something minimal. Just after a few months, waiting for a plane in the morning at Istanbul airport and scoffing from corner to corner, when I saw a man in a hat (appeared to me, seen somewhere) drinking tea, I came over, saying "Issa? ", and is he " 'Milda? ". We drank tea and flew on our own roads. I could not have believed it was possible. Some from Vilnius, some from Aleppo, unexpectedly at Istanbul airport. A few years later, when the war took place, he filmed a documentary, "9 days - from my Window in Aleppo". A few years later, it was shown even by Cinema Spring.
