Hahaha. Love this diet!
But seriously, please spay and neuter your pets.
Meet Bailey, a charming 2-1/2 year old female Boston mix with an adorable underbite. Bailey weighs 28 pounds and is incredibly sweet. She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. Bailey is sociable with other dogs, though she hasn't been tested with cats yet. Her foster mom in San Antonio, TX, is observing her to determine the best type of home for her needs. If you're already approved for adoption and interested in Bailey, please let us know. If you haven't applied yet, visit STBTR.org to complete an adoption form and become pre-approved.

It is with a heavy heart that I must share the news that our beloved "Granny" earned her wings early this morning. Despite what her lab results showed, her body was simply weary, and she chose to depart on her own terms. Granny passed away in my arms, with my dear husband by our side. We are grieving, yet we find solace in the fact that we provided a loving home to an elderly shelter dog who was not expected to live beyond four to six months due to her inability to walk. On her first day with us, she was so frail and in pain from arthritis that I had to ask my father to help me carry her inside the house using a wagon. She had clearly been through multiple pregnancies and her health had suffered from neglect before she was abandoned at a shelter. My heart went out to her, and I was determined to ensure her remaining years were comfortable under my care. Thankfully, she flourished with us for nearly two and a half years, regaining strength each week through daily medications, supplements, and special meals. Gradually, Granny became an integral part of our family. She loved being with us, keeping up with every move we made. She even managed to keep our Boston boys in line when they became too boisterous! Granny's zest for life returned, and she began to play with toys again. She had a passion for car rides and was especially fond of food! Her favorite spot was in my garden, where she would keep me company as I gardened, always eager to sneak a taste of my tomatoes or peppers.Granny's absence will be deeply felt in our home. She was a darling and an absolute joy. It's hard to imagine she was once considered unwanted. Ultimately, we are the fortunate ones to have provided love and care during her last years. I would willingly do it all over again for her.If you ever find the time and have the compassion, please consider fostering or adopting a senior dog. They offer an abundance of love, and sometimes it takes a small break in your heart to mend theirs. It's truly worth it, I assure you.A heartfelt thank you to South Texas Boston Terrier Rescue for the opportunity to care for her as a permanent forever hospice foster. ❤️🐾 ~Jenny

❤️STBTR Hospice dog. ❤️When we take in a dog that is too old or that has multiple health issues for adoption, these dogs are put in foster homes to live their life out with all the vet care they need provided. Granny is one of our hospice fosters. She deserves the same treatment as any of our younger, healthier dogs. When we commit to a rescue dog, it’s for life. Bridget aka “Granny “ is currently at the vet receiving IV fluids ,nausea and antibiotic. She had bloodwork /urinalysis done today. Everything is pointing to her having Pyelonephritis. It is a bacterial upper urinary tract infection involving the kidneys and ureters (the tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder). Since we brought her in to New Waverly Animal Hospital quickly she should make a full recovery. She’s a fighter that sweet girl! ❤️ If you would like to help make a donation towards her vet bill you can donate to South Texas Boston Terrier Rescue

Why adopt a rescue?
Rescuing a dog can have many benefits, including:
Saving a life
You can save a dog from abuse, neglect, or danger
Making room for another pet
By adopting a dog, you free up space in a shelter for another animal to be adopted
Supporting shelters
Adopting a dog from a shelter can save the organization money that can be used to help other animals
Discouraging puppy mills
Adopting a dog from a shelter instead of a breeder can reduce the incentive for puppy mills to continue operating
However, adopting a rescue dog can also be challenging. It's important to be patient and understanding, as it can take time for a dog to adjust to a new home. There are many resources available to help with the transition period, such as free resources, professional trainers, and support from the organization you adopt from.

Adopting a Heartworm-Positive Dog FAQS:
Can dogs fully recover from heartworm?
Yes. If heartworm disease is caught early and treated appropriately, your dog may go on to have a good-quality life. Unfortunately, some dogs may experience undesirable consequences either from treatment or from the disease itself, and may end up with lifelong complications. And it’s important to note that even if your dog recovers, they can become infected again in the future if certain precautions, such as monthly prevention, are not taken.
Does heartworm treatment shorten a dog’s life?
The majority of dogs that suffer from heartworm disease receive treatment, recover, and go on to lead a relatively normal life.
Wondering what to expect when you adopt?
The 3-3-3 rule is a good guideline to follow, every dog is an individual with unique needs and adjust to new circumstances differently.
Please let your new family member get comfortable and settle in at their own pace.
Give them a chance!
