Cartersville, don’t know how to entertain the kids over Spring Break? We've got you. We curated a jam packed week of fun and sensory play for all ages.

You’ll get all of the sensory fun, and none of the clean up. We love this for you.

Our studio is not a drop off facility. You can play along, or bring your lap top to catch up on emails, but much like Hotel California, you may never leave.

View our website for full class descriptions or to reserve your spot! Limited weekly passes are available!

My daughter, Carden, has begged me to attend each Clover + Birch event I’ve hosted, even though they are held during school hours. I thought what better reason to play hooky than to kick off Women’s History Month reading about bold, strong, women to the little ones!

So, I checked her out of school and let her lead story time. The babies absolutely adored her and she was so in her element. One baby settled in her lap as she read and Carden never skipped a beat. They were absolutely fascinated by her.

We made a quick stop for a treat at Agan’s bakery and then I returned her to school to finish out her day!

Hey Mama,

Looking for something fun to do with your baby? Join us for movement class this Thursday!

All of the indoor play areas are fun but they are catered to toddlers and big kids. While that’s awesome, I can’t think of any stage of motherhood where you need your community more, than when your baby is little!

Our movement class is led by our most favorite pediatric chiropractor and stimulates baby’s senses through gentle, age appropriate, movement and exploration.

Plus, we always have snacks and coffee.

Located at the Clover + Birch studio behind Lowes in Cartersville. We do limit the amount of families so please reserve your spot in advance.

Clover + Birch Classes The Clover + Birch Studio is a blank canvas photography space located inside the Clover + Birch shop, and it is available for mini sessions, content creation, classes, playdates, and private events.

I remember sitting in a bar once and watching a woman dancing. She was so full of joy and life that I found it hard to take my eyes off her. She was mesmerising.

But I didn't tell her.

I remember being in the supermarket one day and seeing a woman who had matched her eye make up to the colours in her headscarf. Her eyes shone when she smiled and she looked beautiful.

But I didn't tell her.

I remember watching a fellow mum on the school run years ago. She had a toddler who kept stumbling, stopping to pick things up and pausing to point things out. The mum was so encouraging, patient and calm with her toddler, despite being in a rush herself. I remember thinking what a wonderful parent she was.

But I didn't tell her.

And how often have you probably been that person? Not the one noticing and saying nothing - but the one being noticed.

The one exuding calm, beauty and joy to such an extent that people will remember you years later as the person in the bar or the woman in the supermarket or the mum on the school run.

The one who was mesmerising. Beautiful. Wonderful.

And yet you'll never know because they never told you.

But they noticed you. I promise.

I went to the dentist today. No big deal right? Wrong. I haven’t been in 5 years. I cry thinking about going.

If you’ve been around for awhile you know I voluntarily delivered three babies at home, one of those babies weighing 10 pounds.

When I nearly severed two of my fingers in a wood shop accident while pregnant a few years ago… there wasn’t an OB available to consult so I had them stitch me up, pain med free, until I could get to the hand surgeon.

Again, no OB on staff, the hand surgeon repaired my fingers, tendons, and bones, with me awake in the OR with only local anesthesia.

Those things were all fine but, the dentist? No thank you.

My husband called and made the appointment for me. Me, Mrs. I’ll do it myself, couldn’t make her own dentist appointment.

But, I went and it’s over and that’s all that matters.

So… share your wins. Even if it’s as simple as going to the dentist, what you’d do today that you’re proud of?

Ever since my girls were little, I dreamed of having an intentional play space to connect with like minded parents because, let’s face it, this parenting gig can be lonely.

We created the space that we’ve longed for and, beginning in February, we’re opening our doors to share it with you and your little ones.

Wel’ll provide the coffee. You bring a friend or come make a new one.

We can’t wait to meet you in Cartersville!

We couldn't think of a better way to launch availability of our photography studio space than by offering Spring Mini Sessions with Leo!

The pastels and white bunnies are cute but how about something different this year like boho vibes with the most handsome fella around?

Yeah, we thought it sounded like an upgrade, too.

Questions nobody asked:

Where is your studio? Cartersville, GA

Did you seriously buy a rabbit just to use as a prop? Nope! Leo is our personal pet. He's a one year old, English Angora Rabbit that's been with us since he was 10 weeks old!

Is he afraid of children and loud noises? If we haven't met yet, I have six children. He's probably more afraid of silence than noise.

Can we hold the bunny during our session? As cuddly as he is, we won't be allowing anyone to hold Leo during their session. He will be in his basket, and I will be on hand at all times to monitor his comfort, safety and give him breaks. He's very outgoing and may choose to hop over and visit, you are welcome to interact with him if he does, but he won't be forced to sit or be held.

Other Good Things to Note:

A portion of the proceeds from our mini sessions will be donated to the Georgia House Rabbit Society Rescue.

The set is available to photographers offering mini sessions to their clients. We are not photographers and no photography services will be provided. Love the set but don't have a photographer? Let us know, we can connect you with one of our favorites!

We'll post the full set next week but we knew you'd want to hop on this before it filled up.

Photographers, schedule your session with Leo, here: https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=17855910&appointmentType=40017637

This. I’m often teased for over explaining or over talking things with my kids.

I will forever stand 10 toes down on this though, how are they supposed to learn critical thinking skills if I don’t teach them *how* or *why* I make the decisions I make?

Now, don’t get me wrong “because I said so.” has its place. My kids know that if I use that phrase they need to comply immediately because it’s typically only used when it’s a matter of safety in needing to remove ourselves from an unsafe situation, etc.

Yes! This is one of the many principles we teach in our gentle parenting class. 💙💜

Gabe: Mine. Jovi stole them from me.

Me: I didn’t pack you goldfish. Were these Jovi’s?

Gabe: …they are mine now.

It’s a boy!

Yesterday a judge granted our petition for Adam to adopt Gabriel, making him an official Van Pelt!

I remember the devastation when his biological father decided to no longer parent. I wondered why my sweet boy deserved someone to walk out of his life.

This is why… so that a man that loves him unconditionally, so perfectly, could step in and love him as he should be.

Today I received one of those phone calls no Mama ever wants to receive.

It was a call from one of our bonus kids telling me he wanted to end it all.

Now this kid doesn’t actually belong to us, we’ve acquired many bonus kids along the way. You know your kid’s friends that you fall in love with and they just sort of become extended family? That’s who this guy is to us.

He’s gay. He’s black. We live in the south. He’s also an exceptional athlete meaning he spends a considerable amount of time around kids his age that don’t always have anything supportive to say.

Today it was too much for him. Today the weight of being a gay, black, kid in the south was too much. Today he thought the world might be better off if he weren’t in it. Today he thought he wasn’t worthy of staying.

We FaceTimed. We cried. We had a long hard talk. I built him up. He listened. He went back in to play ball…chin up, shoulders back, chest out, proud of who he is, just like I told him he should be.

His heart’s ok for the moment but mine sure isn’t. All I can think of is ways to fill his cup when society is so dead set on poking holes in it to drain him at every turn.

Will you help me fill his cup and leave him a note in the comments so he can come back and read them when he needs them?

Tell him you’re proud of him for calling someone he trusts. Share your own story. Tell him how dim the world would be without his incredible smile. Tell him never to give up on his worst day and that he’s loved even by people that have never met him.

We love you kid,

All 30k of your internet bonus Mamas

My heart aches for those of you searching for a way to feed your babies. ❤️

In light of the formula shortages, we felt it was important to provide some resources for peer to peer breastmilk donation for anyone interested in this option. If you have milk to offer or if you are in need of milk, please click on the links for your respective state to be directed to informal milk sharing pages. This is by no means an exhaustive list so let us know if we missed any!

If you have formula you can donate to a mama in need, comment below with your location and what you have available. Please DM us if we can help to track down any specific formula needs — we want to support you in any way we can. ❤️

Researchers Pinpoint Reason Infants Die From SIDS | BioSpace 13/05/2022

❤️

Researchers Pinpoint Reason Infants Die From SIDS | BioSpace Researchers from The Children's Hospital Westmead in Sydney, Australia released a study that confirmed not only how infants die from sudden infant death syndrome, but why.

23/04/2022

So important to remember!

Did you know that a 3-year old (top left image) and a 6-year old (top right image) have significantly different skeletal structure in their hands?! Notice the bones in the wrist of the 3-year old -- many of them are still mostly cartilage! Look at all the spaces in between the bones where muscles and tendons will change through the years. Even the difference between a 6-year old and a 14-year old (lower right) is huge!

Preschoolers have SO much development to do before they can write the way school-aged children or adults can!

Please do NOT stress if your preschooler does not want to write or draw. Some love it and some don't.

While they are growing, strengthen those little bones and muscles! Here are some great pre-writing, muscle-strengthening activities:

* painting, drawing, coloring
* playdough
* tearing and cutting
* gluing
* poking holes in things (try toothpicks and paper!)
* digging in dirt
* building with LEGOS, marble runs, or other blocks
* beading (try beads, cut straws, or even bobbins!)
* puzzles
* squeezing (try stress balls, squeezing water in a sponge, or using a pipette)
* picking up and throwing balls (use different sizes!)
* playing with toys (watch what their little fingers do when they pick up and move little cars, marbles, action figures, etc!)
These all strengthen and help develop little hands, muscles, and bones. When they are physically ready to write, it will be so much easier than if they were pushed when they didn't want to and weren't ready!
