For the family and friends of Lana Clarkson, the day her murderer died was, perhaps inevitably, going to be a challenging day. The deaths of perpetrators can elicit a wide range of complex emotions. The press chose to add to this difficult experience in their use of language, choosing to describe her killer as 'talented but flawed'. This was not a one-off, but is a documented pattern in the way that men who kill/rape women are described. Many women have called this out - here is one journalist's reaction.
