Last Bastion

Haven’t done an open mic in a while and had the chance to do a GREAT one last night. Hosted by the supremely talented, Rob Dietrich at Ranch Water, I had a chance to do three songs, and was then asked to support the next singer. That turned into a wild blues jam with five musicians trading licks and sharing vocals!

This represents everything I love about playing music live. I’ll definitely be back!!

Nothing like getting a last minute opportunity to open for a singer/songwriter you just met, shared a stage with and whose music you love!

That’s happening tomorrow at Baltic Kiss in Point Richmond where I’ll be opening for Martha Groves Perry and the MGP Band. The party starts at 8pm!

The kids grabbing a quick nap before a crazy 5 day run of gigs ….

Today, January 16th, was my Mom’s birthday. She would have been 92 today. And as it happened, today I received this box of buttons I’d ordered. It’s the art from the back cover of the album that I dedicated to her back in ‘22.  And it will feature prominently on the ‘Merch Table’ at a bunch of upcoming shows.

Looking forward to wearing one of these. And happy at the thought of seeing other people wearing it as well.

Guitar Purging, Chapter 674:

So, this morning, I dig into my collection to extract a small Telecaster-style guitar made by a local legend, Andrew Goberman. I’m getting it ready to lend to Jon Cohen Ex, a musician I’ll be sharing the stage with at the Utah this Sunday night. (hint, hint)

I’m also thinking, this is one of the guitars that I might want to sell as I try to reduce my collection to a manageable mess.

So, I clean it up, check the strings and the action, the tuning, the whole nine, run it into my amp ‘clean’ … Sounds amazing. Throw a few pedals into the mix ... even better.

Wayyy better!!

And then … THEN … I remember the induction of George Harrison into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame and a certain mind-melting guitar solo offered up by His Purple Majesty…

And after searching (and listening to that solo three freakin’ times in a row), I realize that the weapon he used to wreak such glorious havoc on that stage, bears a striking resemblance to this little thing that I’m actually thinking of selli…. that I don’t really need. That I really should sell…that…

…. Well … maybe not today.

I’m sure there’s something else I can get rid of…
