🕗🙏📖😉
This Wednesday at 8pm we are Beginning A New 6 Week Mid Week Series on Prayer - in the minor hall or on zoom, ALL ARE WELCOME! 🙏

Prayer is one of the deepest joys of the Christian life. What an amazing gift to know that the God whose greatness and glory is beyond our wildest imagination listens to us every time we pray. He loves to hear our voice.

As followers of Jesus, prayer is as vital to our everyday existence as eating, drinking, sleeping, and even breathing. Prayer should be the fuel in the engine of everything that happens in our church. We know we need to pray.

And yet for many of us, prayer feels hard. We might ask ourselves questions like:

When do we pray?
What do we pray?
How do we pray?

And at other times we have perhaps felt all kinds of insecurities hindering our ability to pray:

“I’m not an expert.”
“I’m not eloquent.”
“I’m not confident.”
“I could never pray like them.”

Finding Our Voice in Prayer is a practical, step-by-step guide created to help you and others in our church family find and gain confidence in using your voice in prayer.

Please plan to join us and why not invite a friend to join you?😀

The Cattle on a Thousand Hills

Cattle grazing and lazing on the hills. As I looked afresh at this photo, taken by my son Matthew, it reminded me of a well-known section from God’s Word, the Bible... 🐮

God tells us:
“For every beast of the forest is mine,
the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the birds of the hills,
and all that moves in the field is mine.” (Psalm 50:10-11) 🐦‍⬛

Every animal, every blade of grass, every mountain, every person ... We all belong to God, who has made us and who has given us life, and every good thing that we enjoy. ⛰️

One reason why God inspired this Psalm 50 to be written, is because people had forgotten that. Israel, God’s Old Testament people, had forgotten that they depended on God. 😕

Somehow, they thought, God needed them! ‼️

In a scene of judgement, God the Judge calls His Old Testament people, Israel, before Him:❓

“Gather to me my faithful ones,
who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
The heavens declare his righteousness,
for God himself is judge!”
(Psalm 50:5-6) 🌅

God’s Old Testament people, Israel, boasted that they had done lots for God. They had brought sacrifices. They had done religious things. But, God says He doesn’t need any of it: ❌

“I will not accept a bull from your house
or goats from your folds.
For every beast of the forest is mine,
the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the birds of the hills,
and all that moves in the field is mine.” (Psalm 50:9-11) 💯

God doesn’t need us. But, in God’s grace, His love we don’t deserve, God calls us to follow Him. And uses us, in His purposes. ❤️

So, we should love God and live for God, NOT to get Him to “owe us”, but because we owe God everything.
His Son Jesus has died to forgive our sins, and therefore all our hopes should be in Him. ✝️

Have you humbly admitted to God that you need Him? That His Son Jesus is your only way to God and His forgiveness? 🙏

If you have, then grateful love for Jesus will be the engine that powers your life each day. What a way to live! 🔋

God bless 🙂

Presbyterian Women Prayer
PCI - Day of Prayer for the Middle East Sunday 3 November.
We want to encourage your groups to join in a day of prayer that has been called by PCI's Moderator, Dr. Richard Murray. He writes,
“As Moderator, I would urge you, in this coming week and especially at worship services on Sunday 3rd November, to encourage the members of your congregation to pray earnestly for God’s intervention to bring an end to war in the region and to lift up to Him all those whose lives have been turned upside down by it.”
Quoting from Psalm 34:18, the Moderator, who is minister of Drumreagh Presbyterian Church in County Antrim, continued, “As we think of those enduring unspeakable suffering, we also cling to the reassuring words of the Psalmist who reminds us, “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Dr Murray encouraged congregations to pray:
· For our Sovereign Lord to intervene to end war in the region, constraining the leaders of nations to negotiate a ceasefire and an end to conflict and violence so that a just and lasting peace is established and hope is restored in the land of our Saviour’s birth.
· For all whose lives have been torn apart by war, enduring terrible loss and grief, and now desperately in need of food, water, shelter, medical care and psycho-social support. Remembering also the agencies and frontline workers striving bravely to provide essential supplies and support services.
· Give thanks for Christian communities in the Middle East, praying they would know strength and courage to stand firm in their witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, especially our brothers and sisters who have been most impacted by the conflict and enduring upheaval, fear and uncertainty.
PCI’s Council for Global Mission has extended financial support to its partner churches working on the ground, and who are actively reaching out to the displaced. The Moderator has now also encouraged those wishing to give financial support for the provision of humanitarian aid in the region to channel donations directly through PCI’s relief and development partners, Christian Aid Ireland www.christianaid.ie and Tearfund www.tearfund.org or www.tearfund.ie.
Dr Murray concluded his letter to ministers by saying, “I issue this call to prayer, mindful that you are already actively engaged in interceding for this region of the world, but simply wanting to offer timely encouragement that, as a church, we should pray all the more ardently for a resolution to the longstanding conflict in the Middle East…”

On All Hallows Eve (Halloween) 31st October 1517 the German monk Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the church in Wittenburg, Germany, which lead to the Protestant Reformation.
There are 5 Solas that were highlighted in the reformation and in Geneva the motto of the reformation in Geneva was 'Post Tenebras Lux', "After darkness light."
May we as a church be 'Ecclesia reformata, semper reformanda,' that is, 'the church reformed, always reforming,' according to the Word of God.

Judith McCullough joined us at Bible Class this morning for some fun activities and also to look at God's Word from Hebrews 10 v 24. Thanks also to GB for sending us the lovely buns!

This passage reminds us that we are stronger together. When we work as a team, we can accomplish more than we could alone. God designed us to support and uplift each other, especially during tough times. Just as friends help each other when one is struggling, teamwork allows us to share our strengths and help one another grow. God values unity and cooperation, and He blesses us when we work together in harmony.

How Firm a Foundation • T4G Live [Official Lyric Video] 27/10/2024

Our Closing Hymn this morning "How firm a foundation." This hymn is quite famous in the US and fits well to the American tune. It reminds us of our firm foundation in the promises of God's word.
The 2nd verse is a paraphrase of Isaiah 41 v10 "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." A great promise from our covenant keeping God!

"How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He has said,
For you who for refuge to have fled?
Fear not, I am with you, O be not dismayed,
For I am your God and will still give you aid;
I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand
Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.
When through the deep waters I call you to go,
The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;
For I will be with you, your troubles to bless,
And sanctify to you your deepest distress.
When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be your supply;
The flame shall not hurt you; I only design
Your dross to consume, and your gold to refine.
The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake"

High Street Antrim will be celebrating its 50th anniversary of the new church building which commenced its ministry on the current site in October 1974, having been originally established in 1852. The church is organising celebrations over the course of the weekend with the Moderator leading the service on Sunday morning. Give thanks for the life of this congregation over many years and its ongoing outreach.
🙇 Worship: Respond to God
‘My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.’ Psalm 51:17.
Give thanks that God accepts us as we come humbly before him and ask that experiencing his presence in worship today might better shape our hearts to live for him.
