Tori the Yogi
Nice to meet you! I'm a yoga teacher, Ayurveda (holistic wellness) specialist, and health & wellness coach.
I empower others to learn about their mind, body, & soul to optimize their health and live a life in alignment with their greatest desires.
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to talk about this online, but as I try to integrate this news into my life, it feels authentic to address it in my practice (which I gratefully share with all of you❤️) for it’s always been my most vulnerable space.
In January, my sister was diagnosed as a positive carrier for a BRCA2 genetic mutation that she inherited from my dad. Last month, I was diagnosed as a carrier myself.
For us women, this means we’re sitting at around a 90% chance of breast cancer in our lifetime, ~30% chance of ovarian cancer, and elevated risk for several other types of cancer. For my dad, he has an elevated risk for aggressive prostate and pancreatic cancer.
It’s been a tough season of life. A lot of fear for the future of my family, some grief, many heavy days digesting the information, endless questions, hard decisions, but also so much gratitude.
I’m grateful for the doctors educating and empowering me to make my own medical decisions, for my family and being in this all together, for my partner as we navigate our shared future, for my friends, coworkers, and other loved ones for their endless support, and for my healthy and able body as it is today ❤️
And to all of you reading this right now, thank you for contributing to a space where I feel supported to share❤️
I’m not quite sure how much I plan to share about this journey on this page, but time shall tell 💛 and in the meantime, I’d love to hear from those who’ve been touched by a similar situation. My DMs are always open (though it takes me approx. 25 years to respond to them sometimes so sorry ily 🫶)!

A love letter from Ventura, CA 💌
You mean they’re not just to look ✨cool✨?
Mudras are typically hand symbols added to yoga poses primarily for the purpose of stimulating and encouraging the flow of energy throughout the body
They communicate with marma points, which are physical locations where flesh, veins, arteries, tendons, and/or bones meet in the body
These meeting points represent the connection between the physical body & human consciousness aka the union that yoga creates 🤝
💖What mudra is your favorite?💖
Yogis in the wild 🌴 happy Friday lovelies!
As if facilitating a physical practice in a virtual setting wasn’t difficult enough😅
Add in figuring out and choosing from the many tech options you have for online teaching, and it can quickly feel overwhelming.
So here’s a cheat sheet of what I choose to use in my business!

Struggling with class attendance?
🚨You might be the best yoga teacher in the entire world, but if you can’t communicate to your students WHY they should come to your classes, chances are that in today’s ad noisy world, they won’t show up
So how do you stand out?
1️⃣Catch attention with your creative (aka your image/video) and your hook! Questions are a great way to halt attention and make your audience ask: “does this apply to me?”
2️⃣Tell a story that highlights the BENEFITS of the yoga, not the actual yoga. I mean c’mon, would you rather sell a can of tomatoes by talking about it’s labeling/packaging or by talking about the delicious, nourishing pizza you made with it?
3️⃣Explicitly ask your audience to take action by signing-up, spreading the word, purchasing, etc.

See you there!
I’m Tori, nice to meet you!
I’m a 200 RYT (soon to be 500!) and I teach Vinyasa yoga🎉
Last year I left my corporate engineering job to teach yoga full-time and started Tori the Yogi, an online wellness business helping other corporate professionals heal their own burnout through yoga!
It’s been magical to watch my business evolve over its first year, and I’m so excited to pivot Tori the Yogi to the education space for new yoga teachers 🧘♀️
As I continue to work in this yoga space and post about it online, I’ve had many reach out to me asking what it’s like to be a yoga teacher & how they can become one too.
I’ve also chatted with many who are certified, but feel like they have zero idea where or how to actually start teaching.
I’m a believer that the world will be better with more teachers & yogis alike, and I want to help lower the entrance barrier for new teachers & eliminate the red tape of how to build a profitable yoga business.
So yoga teachers, stay tuned for all things Yoga & business to come🌸
I have many offerings in the works and on the way to help you to start, grow, and scale your yoga business!
And please introduce yourself below! How long have you been teaching yoga and where in your business do you need support?

The #1 Self-Sabotaging trait we all have
✨The judger✨
This is the voice that exists in your head 100% of the time that labels people/places/things/situations as good vs. bad.
Some of us are better at quieting the judger than others, but we all have it and have to learn to work with it.
You see, the judger can be highly informative.
It will unveil your deepest insecurities, fears, self-sabotaging beliefs, thought patterns, and biases.
It will introduce you to your deep-rooted world view.
And just like anything along the personal development journey, awareness is the first step.
⭐️Need help understanding and working through belief barriers?⭐️
That’s where I can help 🥰
Dm me about 1:1 coaching calls on an as-needed basis for the days you just need a little help silencing the judger ❣️

3 ways you might be unintentionally self-sabotaging: Part 3 ✨
Restlessness, avoidance, and control are all responses from the ego, which are all responses meant to protect us. The ego exists for our survival and will flare in times of fear, guilt, shame, stress, etc. in order to promote elf-preservation.
However, part of that self-preservation is hiding the true emotional response, such as fear or guilt, and instead masking it through behaviors like avoidance.
This disconnect between the true feeling and emotional response might cause mis-alignment in your life, conflict with your loved ones, and can quickly cross into the realm of self-sabotaging behaviors.
When you feel these behaviors negatively at play, try and pause. Take a breath & dig deeper - what is the true root of this feeling?
For example, if you’re avoiding a difficult conversation, why? Are you guilty about something? Afraid? Anxious? Sad?
If you can identify a saboteur at play & instead find understanding through feeling, you can shift the narrative from self-sabotage to self-awareness & development.
Ready for part 4? Follow along to learn the #1 form of self-sabotage that each & every one of us has.

To know you is to love you ❤️ happiest of birthdays to my best friend in the whole 🌎
Part 2/4 : how are you unintentionally self-sabotaging?
Today we’re talking about the hypers: meaning that achievement, vigilance, and rationality are all occurring in excess.
Excess indicates a lack of balance and when you’re out of balance, all that’s needed to re-center is a little extra on the side of counter balance.
When you feel yourself spiraling, try and make a conscious effort to add energy to the alternative.
For example, if you’re a hyper-achiever and struggle with ending your work day on-time, that’s because you’ve communicated to yourself that longer days = more reward.
⭐️Change your reward⭐️
Make your new to-do ending the day at 5pm, and reward yourself when you do.
Eat a dessert, ask your partner to give you verbal appreciation, or show yourself thanks in whatever way you like to experience reward the most.
A favorite yoga teacher of mine once told me, “balance isn’t something you find, it’s something you create.”
Meaning that your balance is in your control, and that’s a beautiful privilege✨
Be gentle with yourself in the learning & creation process 💛 you deserve it
Stay tuned for parts 3 & 4 coming soon!

Quit sabotaging yourself girl!!
To be honest, we all have our strengths & weaknesses. What many don’t realize is they’re usually just different sides of the same coin.
Take the trait “people pleaser” for example. Anyone feel like this is them? 🙋♀️ This is my #1 self-sabotaging trait.
It can be draining & depleting to fill the cups of others before your own or at the expense of your own.
That said, being able to tune in to & connect to the desires & needs of others is also one of my favorite traits about myself, because it allows me to connect to people on a deeper level ❤️ And I know this is one of the reasons I’m able to serve as a coach❤️
⭐️So what do we do when our strengths are our weaknesses & weaknesses are our strengths?⭐️
Truth is, there’s no quick fix. The key is awareness & bringing awareness into every moment to see what side of the coin is at play and making decisions from the heart instead of the ego.
It’s a true journey to learn yourself well enough to distinguish the difference, but no one is saying you have to go it alone!
Want support identifying your personal traits & learning how to work with them not against them? DM me let’s chat!
Otherwise, stay tuned for parts 2, 3, & 4… there’s a lot to unpack here!

Poolside reflections 🌊 Happy Saturday🌞
Hey Everyone!!
I recently entered a competition led by the Yoga Journal to win a 2 page editorial spread in the magazine and 10K cash!🎉

The results & growth I've seen in my clients is UNREAL (makes me a proud coach!) and I'd love this editorial to help reach & support more people.
⭐️If you have 30 seconds of your time to spare today, I ask that you please give me a vote using the link below⭐️
It would mean THE WORLD!
The link will also bring you to my profile which explains more about my mission as a small entrepreneur & how I plan to use the 10K if I win.
Thank you in advance!
