The count down is on…. I’ve nearly finished the work I’m putting into this. It’s the first time I’ve ever made something in 3d. So please come along!

So I know I’ve neglected this page for quite some time. I’ve basically just gone off being online that much. But I’ve also been far too busy in real life to even look on ‘ere! A couple of weeks running myself ragged have resulted in a stonking cold this week (a cold, not covid!).
The arts council application I’m getting the info together for has now been delayed until January. Which I’m quietly relieved about as it gives me breathing space for everything else I’m doing.
For a start… there are Open Studios tomorrow at the Old Parcels Office, scarborough, so get your butt over and say hello!
Myself and fellow studio partner-in-crime Trish Shaw will be holding a beginners weaving workshop on the 4th November at the new Fig Tree art centre, in Falsgrave community centre, in Scarborough. Watch this space for the details on how to book.
I’ll be showing work in a group exhibition by the resident artists at the Old Parcels Office, Scarborough. See the image for details. And I’ll see you at the preview!
And speaking of the Fig Tree arts centre… although they haven’t officially launched yet, I’ve drawn their logo! So whenever you see it, think of me. 🤓
And myself and fellow studio partner-in-crime Trish Shaw are organising a christmas arts and crafts market that will also be at the Fig Tree, and again it a watch this space for when we put the info out on when it is and how to book a stall.
Then there will be another (this time Christmasy) Open Studios on the 2nd December at the Old Parcels Office, with an arts and crafts fair.
Hopefully we’ll be putting in my arts council application for reseach and development on my mermaid script (you’ll have heard me waffling on about it) in January.
Myself and (you’ve guessed it!) my fellow studio partner-in-crime will be holding another workshop on making creatures in January.
Then I have been offered another solo show at Gallery 6 again in March.
Did I mention I’m a tad busy?!
I’ll keep reminding ya of everything nearer the time.
And in the mean time…
OPEN STUDIOS!!!!!

It's official! See ya there... 😉

So it's been a while!
I got rather ill over christmas, just the flu/cough thing that was doing the rounds. But as none of us seem to have an immune system left after all the lockdowns I was really ill with it for a month. Then it's taken me another month to fully recover! And in among all that I just seem to have lost interest in spending any time on the internet.
However, there is good news...
A couple of days before I got ill I acquired an exhibition! And this will be my first. So from the 7th to the 27th March my latest work will be showing at Gallery 6, Victoria Road, Scarborough.
It will have taken a long time to get this work out there, to bypass those who seem to think it's a good idea to censor artist's work. Don't get me wrong, I've had far more positiveness directed towards this work that out weighs all of the petty censorship put together.
So please come to see it! (show them they were wrong!)
And I'm also performing some spoken word stuff at the event there on the evening of the 10th March some of which will be connected to the work in the exhibition. You do need to book in advance for the evening event as it does sell out fast so contact the gallery for details.
And in the meantime, here's a slightly updated version of how Meryl's coming along...

Working on a portrait of Meryl. Long way to go but it's starting to take shape ok. (Hand in for scale)

This week so far theres been some felting, pouring of resin, and painting of triangles.
Hope your coming to see it all on Saturday 10.30am - 4pm Open studios and arts/craft fair, at the Old Parcels Office Artspace in Scarborough.
See ya there. 😉

Those of you with eagle eyes out there may have noticed I've changed my email address in the contact details on here. That's because my old one has become very unreliable! So if you've been trying to contact me sorry, but take note.
And in the mean time heres a pic of some splodgy inkyness....

Bit of calligraphy today...

Photos from CLAIRE.'s post 07/09/2022

So I'm quiet on 'ere as I'm busy because we have OPEN STUDIOS coming up on the 24th of this month. So 'ere's a few snaps of things I'm doing at the mo for various reasons. And you'll have to come along on the 24th to find out why! 🥸.....
Cleaning hammer heads.
Drilling holes in half pennies.
Dreaming about buying a stuffed crocodile.
Planning on drawing a fish head.
Working out if I can make cigarette butts realistic enough.
Wanting to draw a snail.
Scrunching clay.
And a bit of sewing, as ever!

Photos from Old Parcels Office Artspace's post 24/08/2022

We're having OPEN STUDIOS again!!! Oh, and theres an art and craft fair as well. Tell your friends... 😉

Photos from CLAIRE.'s post 19/07/2022

Been doing a bit of sewing today...
Testing out an idea that's part of a scene in my script. I think it works. 🤓

04/07/2022

I've been doing the WEA Creative Writing course recently which has been great as it's kick started me into adding more to my mermaid script (as I found it difficult to continue through the pandemic).
There's going to be a "read through" (actors sitting on stage reading them) of all our scripts and stories on this Sunday 10th July, open to the public, you can come and go throughout, and it's FREE!
It's at The Old Parcels Office, Scarborough. Starting at 1pm, though my script will be at 1.45pm.
Yes I can now say I have written a script. 😁 (all be it a first draft!)
So if you wanna hear some good stories spread the word and come along.

Our Story

CLAIRE. learnt traditional sign writing originally on a City and Guilds, before dabbling in a bit of painting for a short time on a BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design, then while on a B.A. degree (in painting!?) decided Durational Live art was the key to everything in life, (She never did get round to painting on that degree!). When not developing even more ideas or actually performing on the degree, a long time was spent perfecting the skill of creating performance based relief photomontage images, having created all the installations for the photo images herself first. Then an M.A. in Fine Art was gained, and numerous years spent creating and performing Live art works for various events around the UK.
Then life changed, as it tends to sometimes, so it was time for self employment. Knitting took over (who knew!) along side a lot of sewing. Writing (mainly poetry) made an appearance again, which had been happening on and off but now it started getting performed too. More recently drawings are making an appearance, on a serious level! with a few words every now and then, while performance ideas swim by.
And, well, it's all getting a bit mixed up... but she’s happy!
