Freezing temperatures are coming! Here are several tips from MFEI:

1) Humidifiers need to be set at 25% (possibly lower if you see condensation on the windows).

2) Watch for snow drifts blocking high efficiency furnace intake/exhausts.

3) Disconnect all exterior hoses/timers (even if spigot is off).

4) Keep garage doors closed as much as possible.

5) Trickle water in sinks and open vanity doors (if over a garage or on an exterior wall) to avoid freezing water lines. Frozen pipes on pex water lines typically isn’t an issue and will resolve itself when the temperatures come back up.

6) If you use a space heater, use caution and don’t use an extension cord.

Just 3 things need to be done. 1) Make sure the water supply is on (located on the hot water heater water lines). Rotate handle so that it sits parallel to the pipe 2) Set humidistat dial to 35%. 3) Rotate the black valve on the humidifier unit to the “winter” setting.
To verify it’s working, temporarily turn the humidistat up to max and when the furnace runs, you should see water trickling out the clear discharge pipe on the bottom of the humidifier (may take a few minutes). The water filter panel inside the humidifier must be replaced at least once per year so if this isn’t your 1st winter then you will need to replace it (available at Home Depot).
Humidifiers help keep the moisture in your home which in turn helps keep all of your woodwork from shrinking and cracking the caulking. As the weather gets colder, if you notice condensation on your windows simply turn the humidistat down to 25% or lower and it will clear up within a day or two.

A message from Curby’s Lawn & Garden:

Hello,
As we sail into spring, it is incredibly important to water your new landscape well. Most plants die as a result of under watering when the plants need a good drink the most! So, grab your water hose and head out to check on your newly installed trees, shrubs and perennial plants.
As a homeowner, it is important to remember that your turf irrigation system will not do the trick, even if you can see the water making its way into the landscape bed(s). A traditional turf irrigation system will only output enough water to wet the top four to six inches of soil. So, a really good, deep, soaking is needed to reach the root systems of the large trees. In most cases the root systems are approximately thirty inches below the soil line. We recommend turning the water on a slow trickle ( #2 pencil sized stream) and letting the hose sit near/on the trunk of those trees, until the area is nice and saturated. This may take an hour, give or take your water pressure. Applying water to the base of each shrub and perennial plant is also incredibly important! If you are in a high wind area, or full sun space, you will need to water more frequently.
Want help watering your landscape? Check out your local hardware store for Tree Gator bags, battery powered irrigation timers and a temporary drip hose. While those items are not a permanent solution to watering, they will help in times of drought and extreme heat, making your job a little easier.
Please let us know if you have any questions! Have a wonderful week!

Copper Springs Meadows pool is now in progress! They broke ground yesterday on the pool house, ahead of the completion of the phase.

Martens Family Enterprises, Inc is not known for doing just the minimum so we thought we’d throw in some upgrades! We are giving the neighborhood a splash area, lounge area, slide, AND we are adding a HEATER for the pool! The pool will be saltwater. The adult lounge area will feature in-water loungers and a seating ledge along the main pool. The splash area will have 3 spray rings and a waterfall mushroom in approximately 4-6” of water for the kiddos to play in. The slide will look similar to the picture. Adding the heater will allow for a few more weeks of pool enjoyment throughout the year. Our goal is to eventually have an extended pool season as long as the weather cooperates. Photo examples are of a similar pool in our Heather Ridge South & Estates Subdivision.

MY SITE 04/10/2022

It’s October and a good time to seal your exterior concrete!

Spalling is when the top surface of the concrete flakes off and reveals the aggregate layer below the surface. Spalling often happens during the freeze thaw cycles of winter. Water, chemicals and melting snow pe*****te into the surface of unsealed concrete, then freezes and expands 9% creating a lot of internal pressure. Spalling also occurs when salt or other de-icing chemicals (even from you car driving on city streets) are used to melt the snow. These chemicals will absorb & weaken the surface of the concrete causing it to deteriorate.

Sealing your concrete is the best way to prevent this from happening and keeping your driveway and exterior concrete looking new!
