March was a busy month at Rise!

We took two trips to the Minnesota State Capitol for Mental Health Day on the Hill and Disability Services Day at the Capitol!

It's so important for our legislators to prioritize funding the services that support Minnesotans with mental illness, disabilities, and other challenges to live their best, most purpose-filled lives.

Keep making your voices heard!

It just so happens that #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth coincides with the last month of the Minnesota Legislative Session, and, this year, #MentalHealthServices funding is on the table. We are so proud of Daniel, who receives employment services at Rise through a program called Individual Placement and Support (IPS), for sharing his story at the MN House and advocating for continued support of these life-changing services. 4/20/2023 Rise Family Meeting - Legislative Updates
Last week, Rise President Lynn Noren shared the latest news about bills that affect waiver-funded services and how proposed legislation could affect our community, including reduced waitlists and higher rates for direct support professionals. If you couldn't make it to the meeting, check out the recording below! #RiseMN #disabilityadvocacy #legislation #minnesota

We, along with thousands of community members from across the state, showed up to the Minnesota State Capitol on Tuesday to make our voices heard! Our message is clear: INVEST in wavier-funded disability services! Direct care professionals deserve to be paid a living wage! Only Minnesota lawmakers can ensure that the people who work every day to support some of our most vulnerable community members have the resources they need to do their best work. Can we count on your support? #RiseMN #legislativesession #disabilityadvocacy #selfadvocacy #disabilityrights #investincommunity #disabilityservices #disabilityactivism

Michael Sack, who attends services at Rise, recently joined the MN APSE podcast to discuss his disability advocacy work and his employment experiences and ambitions as a Minnesotan with a disability. In this clip, Michael shares how Rise's difficult decision to end special minimum wage programs has impacted his life and his outlook on employment. We're so proud of Michael for sharing his story and continuing to advocate for the Disability Community! You can listen to the rest of the episode wherever you find your podcasts.

50 Stories for 50 Years: Sean Hamilton
Sean Hamilton recognizes the importance of his work. He also understands how critical our team members are in moving our mission forward. “The quality of people I work with is one of the favorite parts of my job. From our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to our directors, everyone is very accessible, personable, and passionate about what they do,” he said. Hamilton has a lifelong connection to working with people who have disabilities. His parents have been DSPs for more than 20 years, which led to his own early career in a residential setting. He joined Rise five years ago, first as an employment consultant and now as a case manager based in our Cottage Grove location.
