E28 528i in understand Shadow Line spec delivery day goes back to its owner under pampered cover. A garage find car which has undergone a mechanical overhaul to include, brakes, fuel and engine overhaul as well as ten necessary but in this case incredibly low amount of welding require. A lovely understated cruiser and as smooth as they come. Garage or barn finds, recommission or restoration of 70’s or 80’s BMW’s, its what we love to do at Classic Bahnstormers. We’ll shortly be offering up for sale a similar e28 528i project with rare Lama Beige leather and black paint, a stunning combination.

E23's in the workshop! 😍 Classic Bahnstormers workshop update - Bahama Beige One-owner E23 735i recommissioning job.
Sat patiently in the queue. Its had bits and pieces in the engine bay, loads of work underneath, fuel and brake lines we are gradually going through. We’ve had it running when it first came in for its appraisal, and we had it running properly again earlier on today.
Unusually, there are rather a lot of E23s in the workshop currently - including one a South African import E23 745i with the M88 engine. The 745 in Europe and American was a turbo car but they couldn’t build it as a RHD car. The South Africans got very upset about this - as they should I am very upset about this - and BMW put the M88 engine into the 7 and they infact raced them in South Africa.
The 745i has some super cool details such as: Oyster Leather, they only came in this Arctic Blue Metallic or in White. It arrived as a non-runner and had come from another garage that were sadly no longer to continue the work due to illness.

E24 Highline 635 CSI that we carried out a full inspection 2 service on earlier this year in preparation for a trip to Europe. We identified further issues most notably a faulty air flow meter and replaced brakes and various bushes but to help enhance the European Bahnstorming we also retrofitted cruise control and were delighted to receive the following from the owner.
“Hi Steve. Just awaiting ferry at Cherbourg to return to Poole after 14 days touring France to Spain. The 635 was impeccable; and the much vaunted cruise control was superb- well worth the effort. Please thank your guys.”

1989 E32 SWB 750i spotted by a follower in Stratford-upon-Avon 👌🏻
Previously owned by Classic Bahnstormers, we bought this car after it had been parked up in a city garage since 2007. We returned this V12 E32 back to the road in 2021 and sold to a friend of the business, who still enjoys and regularly uses the car to this day.
Finished in Glacier Blue this highly desirable E32 is a very rare sight on UK roads.
A fabulous example of BMW’s most opulent 80’s model, the last car to truly be considered part of the shark nose family.

Serious tools for a serious job. The crank nut on BMW’s legendary M30 engine is required to be tightened to 440 Newton metres. Along with a special tool to hold the crank one of our techs here using a colossal torque wrench to do the business on this freshly rebuilt m30 b28 engine.

The Bahama Biege E23 735i’s mechanical overhaul is taking shape. A mountain of new parts was amassed to help put this old lady back on the road after sitting in dry storage since 1996! The car is being rebushed, piped and anything made of rubber renewing from front to back. New suspension, brakes and fuel system including a tank refurb all in progress, is there anything more pleasing than a freshly plated bolt I ask?

An early E34 M5 in Mauritius Blue metallic begins its restoration journey with us.
We are pleased to be embarking on this project with a great new client who has owned this car several times and is responsible for a greater part of its 200k+ mileage.
After regretfully having to sell whilst in a tight spot. He waited his opportunity patiently and was eventually able to purchase the car back from its next owner - a great story and one we are proud to now become part of.
Mechanically pretty healthy we will be fettling various elements, but this M5’s problems are largely rot related.
Stripping the car has revealed that years of make ‘do and mend’ welding repairs have taken their toll and the tin worm has been rampantly munching away.

FOR SALE £1,500 - 1 owner BMW E34 520i touring project. Came in for some minor mechanical work and to replace the front wings but on removal we found the bottom of the A pillars on both sides requires welding and the cars one and only owner has decided not to pursue the project so it’s up for grabs. It is otherwise extremely good on the rust front and we have already replaced the only other severely rusty section, the radiator core support.
Roughly 155k, well maintained, original book pack full of service stamps, last serviced July 2023 roughly 3k miles ago.
Runs and drives nicely, looks smart but would benefit from a good clean/detail.
Have left it dismantled so easy to inspect. But all parts are present including wheel trims.

Nice to see one of our extensive restorations completed in 2022 back for a quick service, MOT and ceramic coating.
A great car this dogleg manual M535i and one we are very proud of. Great to see it’s as fresh now as it was two years ago especially as this one is actually stored outside all be it with sensible precautions taken to protect it.

Giving this M70 V12 engine some love. The owner of this much cherrised E32 reached out to us after struggling to find anyone who could help him diagnose a mysterious fuelling issue. As is often the case,!the issue turned out to be a few items contributing to the overall effect. We have gradually whittled down failing HT leads, warn rotors and caps, leaking fuel injectors and finally a failed manifold gasket at the back of bank 2. Changing the vally pan gasket into the bargain we should have this V12 purring along nicely again once it’s back together.

Update on our Alpina B9 project. Initially excited by the surprising lack of damage to this shell after we had it blasted back to bare metal, closer inspection as significantly dampened our earlier dubilations. Nevermind, new back panel prepped and ready to go in along with many other smaller repair panels. Cut, cut. Bang, bang. Spark, spark. Grind, grind. Job, Jobbed!

A few weeks back, we had the pleasure of having the full mid 80’s UK M line up present in one of our workshops!
An Alpine White m635 csi with superb brown leather that we have been doing a pretty serious overhaul on for the last two years.
A Sonderlack E28 M5 which has undergone a similar program of work to the E24
Finally a Macau Blue E30 M3 Evo which we have been tasked with reassembling after it was first dismantled 17 years ago making it the automotive equivalent of a jigsaw with no lid.

We have had the pleasure of appraising and then rectifying a few items from the list on this this early 325i complete with tech 1 body kit. Very well specced for an E30, leather, AC, OBC and cruise, the original owner ticked all the option boxes.
For our part, a thorough service, a brake overhaul including a refresh of the callipers and uprated discs and pads. A little trip to the welding shop for some standard repairs but caught nice and early so nipped in the bud by it’s conscientious owner. Finally a trip to the exhaust builder for a new back box. Looks and sounds sweet.

One of our regular clients. Over the last few years we have been gradually working our way through his original appraisal and this time round it was the turn of the interior to receive some love. We have had the original, now close to 300k interior retrimmed in the original Pearl Beige hounds tooth and corresponding bolster fabric. This has raised the already impressive level of work the owner has performed and the car now looks, drives and importantly feels like a million bucks. Beautiful work of which we are proud to play our part. Big thanks to our partner businesses that allow us to be a one stop shop for Classic BMW restoration.

At Bahnstormers we appreciate exotica as much as the next enthusiast, however as time goes on we appreciate the bond that develops with a particular vehicle over time and appreciate that almost every car we work on is someone’s pride and joy. We are therefore honoured to work on these heirlooms, family members, faithful servants and applaud those who chose to look after them.
The owner of this superbly clean and original E30 that we have recently completely rebuilt the rear wheel tubs, pockets and rear arches on has kindly shared his story.

Very pleased with the results.
I do think that Scott’s fabrication work is very good and your company deserves to show it off. So happy for you to report on social media.
The car was owned for 25 years by my mechanic’s mother. Dave was an apprentice at Bridgewater BMW at the time and saw it sold new off the forecourt. He then serviced it etc for his mum until she sold it to me a few years ago. Dave still works on it today and it’s fair to say that Bahnstormers are the only company we trusted to do a good job of the required welding and bodywork repairs to keep the car going for another 20 years. I believe our trust has been rewarded.
I think it’s important to note that whilst E30s are known for driving prowess and some great 6 cylinder engines the stock 4cyl engine cars are perhaps now a rarer model despite once being the staple “family” car. It remains a practical people carrier but just happens to be the coolest!”

The Nargo motorsport car we have been reassembling over the winter is nearly ready for testing. The original trims has been painted somewhat roughly and we couldn’t bring ourselves to just through them back on the car. With many items now NLA a new set was not an option so after much attempted cleaning and regeneration tactic’s attempted we reached decided to have them painted. Matched to a brand new piece of factory trim the plastics rub strips and bumper trims on this really have come out well. We are a pair of front indicator lenses short of an MOT after a full refesh.
