Lincoln, RI's Vicki Movsessian-Lamoriello receiving her Gold Medal at the 1993 Olympic Festival held in San Antonio, TX . Vicki would go on to help the US win the first Women's Olympic Gold Medal in hockey in Nagano in 1998. She will join fellow Gold Medalists Sara DeCosta and Cammi Granato as honored members of the RI Hockey Hall of Fame at induction ceremonies on Aug 17th at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet. Happy Birthday, Jeff Jillson!

Born this day in 1980, Jeff was inducted into the RI Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023. The North Smithfield, RI native starred at Mount Saint Charles and the University of Michigan, before becoming the 1st pick and 14th overall selection of the San Jose Sharks in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He played in the NHL with the Sharks, Boston Bruins & Buffalo Sabres.

Goaltender Harvey Bennett, Sr - Born this day in 1925

The patriarch of Rhode Island's famous Bennett hockey family, Harvey is the Providence (RI) Reds All-Time Leader in Wins (226), Games (490) and Minutes Played (28,806). Here between periods in 1947, Harvey sits between Chuck Scherza and Harvey Fraser. Harvey was inducted into the RI Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018 along with his son, Curt. Son, Harvey, Jr, was inducted in 2022 and son, Bill, will be inducted this Aug 17 at Rhodes-on-the Pawtuxet. Tickets available at RIHHOF.com

Tommy Woodcock

Before Providence, RI's Tommy Woodcock became a NHL Hall of Fame trainer, the Hope High School All-Stater aspired to play professionally. Before he suited up here with the RI Scarlets, Tom earned a tryout with his hometown Providence Reds and then skated for the Worcester Warriors and Washington Presidents in the Eastern Hockey League.

In 1971, RI's Bennett family welcomed Andy Geiger as the new Athletic Director at Brown University. He held that position until 1975, when he moved to the University of Pennsylvania in a similar capacity. Geiger was appointed to the same position at Stanford University in 1979. During his 11-year stay at the Pac-10 school, Stanford won a total of 27 national championships.

Cranston, RI's Curt Bennett with the St Louis Blues.

The Cranston East High School All-Stater and Brown University NCAA All-American was the first American-developed player to eclipse the 30 goal mark in a single NHL season, which he did in consecutive seasons when he later starred with the Atlanta Flames. Curt was inducted into the RI Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.

On this day back in 1993, East Providence, RI native Tim Army was named an Assistant Coach of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim under former fellow Providence College Friar, Ron Wilson. Tim returned to that position earlier this month after NHL stops in Washington and Colorado and a number of turns coaching in the AHL and guiding Team USA in World Championship competitions.

On this day in 2006, Garth Snow, former star goaltender at RI's Mount St Charles Academy, U Maine and the NHL, was named General Manager of the NY Islanders and retired as a player. Garth held the position for 12 seasons. He was inducted into the RI Hockey Hall of Fame in 2020

Bob Bellemore - 1965 split save again Boston University

Before he was the goalie coach for the New Jersey Devils, Bob was a 2x All-Stater at LaSalle Academy in Providence, RI and then the backbone of the Providence College Friar team that made it to the Final Four in 1964. He was inducted into the RI Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022.

Wishing Cranston, RI's Jack Capuano a "Wild"ly successful time behind the Minnesota Bench.

The NHL's Minnesota Wild have announced that Jack has been named an Associate Coach behind Wild Head coach and Warwick, RI, native and fellow RI Hockey Hall of Famer, John Hynes. Jack is entering his 15th year as an NHL coach, the last 5 in the same Associate Coaching capacity with the Ottawa Senators.

Jack Kennedy - Norwich University

Joanne Kennedy stands alongside the statue of her late husband, East Providence, RI's Jack Kennedy. The bronze greets spectators at the University's Kreitzberg Arena where Jack won multiple All-East honors. The couple will be honored posthumously with the 2024 Malcolm Greene Chace Award for "Lifetime Contributions to the Game of Hockey" at the RI Hockey Hall of Fame's annual induction ceremonies at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet on Aug 17. Congrats to RI Hockey Hall of Famer Tim Army on his return to the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks.

Tim has more than 35 years of coaching experience, including 15 as an Assistant Coach in the NHL and 14 as a Head Coach in the AHL and at Providence College. Tim served as an Assistant Coach with Anaheim for the club’s first four seasons from 1993-97 and later with Washington (1997-02) and Colorado (2011-17).

In 1948, the RI Scarlets captured the Memorial Cup, symbolic of capturing the US Senior Championship. It was the first of 12 National US Amateur Hockey Championships won by Rhode Island teams in various age categories over the years.

In 1991, Burrillville's Junior Hockey League All-Stars won the New England Midget title and then went on to win the USA Hockey National Midget Title in Woburn, MA.

After their standout careers at Providence College, West Warwick, RI's Drew Omicioli (shown here) and brother, Mike, starred with the Bolzano Hockey Club in the Italian Alps League. Together, they helped lead Bolzano to the Italian Cup Championship with Drew leading the league with 44 goals.

RI Olympian, Gerry Kilmartin. Born this day in in 1927.

A Pawtucket native and LaSalle Academy All-Stater, Gerry competed at both the 1947 & 1949 IIHF World Championships for Team USA. He racked up a remarkable 75 points on 33 goals and 42 assists in 46 games as the USA National Team prepared for the 1949 Worlds in Stockholm, Sweden. "Killy", as he was known, then starred in the 1952 Olympic Games in Oslo, scoring 6 goals and 3 assists in helping the USA capture the Bronze Medal.

Rhode Island's Tim Regan shut out his boyhood idols, the RI Reds, while playing for the Hershey Bears here in 1974. Tim, a LaSalle Academy All-Stater, BU All-American, MVP of the 1972 NCAA Championships, and 1972 USA Olympian will be enshrined in the RI Hockey Hall of Fame on Aug 17th at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet in his hometown of Cranston, RI. Jim Bennett - Brown University 1976 thru 1979

Jim is one of 5 Bennett brothers who played professional hockey. After a successful collegiate career with the Bears, the Cranston, RI native played two professional seasons in the International & Central Hockey Leagues

Cranston, RI's - Digit Murphy

Before she became one of the most successful coaches in women's amateur and professional hockey, Digit was one of the early stars of the collegiate game. At Cornell, she earned All-Ivy honors in each of her four years, captaining her team to two Ivy League titles as a junior and senior while being named Ivy" Player of the Year". The Big Red's annual women's MVP Trophy is named after her. She was enshrined in the RI Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019.

Best wishes to Pawtucket native and former Boston Bruins farmhand, Howie Rosenblatt, on his appointment as the new boys hockey coach at North Kingston (RI) High School. Congratulations also to Bob Deraney on becoming the new head coach of the NY Islander's Worcester Railers affiliate in the ECHL. Bob, a former assistant with the Railers, coached the Providence College Women's Hockey program for 19 years.

Happy B-Day, Brian Burke!

Born this day in Providence, RI in 1955, Brian served as co-captain of the Providence College Friars with Ron Wilson during his senior season in 1977. Two years later he was on the Calder Cup winning Maine Mariners before earning his law degree and becoming a storied player agent, NHL executive and game analyst. Shown here with college roommate and lifelong friend, goalie Rick Moffitt, he was enshrined in the RI Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019.

Happy Birthday, Brian Lawton!

Born this day in 1965, Cumberland, Rhode Island's Brian Lawton was the very first US-born player to be selected 1st overall in the NHL Amateur Draft when the Minnesota North Stars selected him in 1983. The former Mount St Charles All-Stater was enshrined in the 2018.

Thirty years ago, it was a born and bred Rhode Island high school hockey star - Bryan Berard - who was the #1 overall pick in the 1995 NHL Draft. He would capture Rookie of the Year honors one year later. In 2003, Bryan was awarded the NHL's Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for exemplifying the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey after returning to the league after what would become a career-ending eye injury.

The mission of the RI Hockey Hall of Fame is to preserve and showcase the rich history and heritage of the game of hockey in our state while recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of players, coaches, administrators, officials and teams. New members are inducted annually for extraordinary achievement over the course of their careers.

Of all the major sports, our state produces and contributes more players, coaches and executives to the highest levels of the game of hockey than any other.

We believe that the best of those who have played it, served it and distinguished themselves in doing so should be honored so that their achievements may continue to both inspire and pave the way for present and future generations of young men and women who dream of reaching the highest heights of our great game.
