“The Spanish phonetic catalog is limited when compared with other languages, i.e., French sixteen French vowel sounds vs. five in Spanish. Let’s explore Spanish phonetics to address the main problems that Spanish speaking singers have when singing in foreign languages to help them expand their phonetic inventory.”

Don’t miss this! On Friday, October 14th from 14:00-15:00 CDT Russell Harlow, Leslie Harlow, Richard Jones, and Pamela Jones will present “Adapting and Presenting Baroque Chamber Music for Modern Instruments Using Piano or Continuo” at CollabFest 2022.

“This lecture discusses the process of performing Baroque repertoire using piano as continuo. It then explores how the same players reimagine and respond differently to the same repertoire when playing with harpsichord & cello/gamba with a historically inflected response, creating a different and artistically valid interpretation of the same piece.”

“There’s a shared call to teach song literature more inclusively. How do we build structures of knowledge and confidence for new and lesser-known repertoire? Kelly shares the first phase of a long-term project that garners the power of crowdsourcing to reimagine our engagement with these questions.”

Have you heard about this upcoming event? On Thursday, October 13th from 18:00-18:50 CDT Katie Hughes will present “Vocal Arranging for Pianists” at CollabFest 2022.

“This presentation will discuss how to arrange popular tunes for varying vocal ensembles, from duets to SATB. We will talk about how to use Finale efficiently and how to clearly notate music for singers. Katie will share my experience with the most effective teaching strategies I have found when working with these groups.”

“Aftermath, the song cycle Rorem wrote in the wake of 9/11, expresses a dark, angry or mournful picture of war and its aftermath. This presentation will introduce this rarely-performed vocal chamber cycle with an analysis of selected movements.”

“Composer-poet pairs such as Britten and Auden, Copland and Dickinson, Bonds and Hughes are familiar to us. Richard Hageman had two go-to poets: Rabindranath Tagore and Robert Nathan. This presentation explores Hageman’s development as a song composer through his settings of these poets’ words.”
