Working closely with Performing Arts Venues, we offer a respite to patients, survivors, children, and caregivers by inviting them to a night to remember. All our guests have to do is show up, relax, and bask in the magic of the stage, the joys of the music, and the pleasures of dining in a relaxed atmosphere designed just for them. The founder of TO SHOW WE CARE, Stephen M. Tyler, understands the challenges of lives changed forever by a diagnosis. He understands the new realities facing victims
of these diseases. In June of 2003, during the exciting months of their engagement to be married, Stephen and his fiancé, Susan, in the full and wonderful expectation of a long and loving life together, suddenly faced the reality of Susan’s stage four lung cancer. To help his beloved Susan escape the never ending treatment, visits to the hospitals, and tortuous recoveries, Stephen devised a night out, a night away, a night of fun. A special night for his beloved Susan. They dined like royalty. They went to the theater, an uplifting musical with star performers, in a setting any theatre lover would love. For an evening, the wonders of a carefree world returned and held her in its embrace. It was a night to remember. After Susan’s passing Stephen has devoted himself to bringing this gift of an evening away from the troubles of illness and the concerns of recovery to more and more people in all walks of life. Accolades have followed TO SHOW WE CARE everywhere the organization has gone. People and press have praised them. Testimonies attest to the positive and encouraging impact TO SHOW WE CARE has had. Sponsors have rewarded TO SHOW WE CARE with steadfast and continuing support. As a result, TO SHOW WE CARE is expanding its event calendar and reaching out to more people than ever, including those who have recently lost a loved one. Looking into the future, Stephen has recently said, “Hope is one of the most valuable things in the world and it can come in many forms. A smile is hope’s success.” That simple idea inspires us and we know that TO SHOW WE CARE, our programs, our staff of volunteers, our loyal sponsors all create smiles where sadness sometimes seems to rule so relentlessly. Everyone knows a great smile can light up a room. We know smiles can also light up a world.
