Zidane excited by Real late shows
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane insisted he can't explain his side's penchant for late goals, but is excited rather than concerned by the need to constantly go to the wire.
Marcelo struck four minutes from time as, for the seventh time this season, Real won a La Liga game in the final 10 minutes by edging out Valencia 2-1 on Saturday.
"We know our stats of goals scored in the last few minutes," said Zidane.
"That is the reason football is so wonderful and you can't over-analyse things too much. I can't explain why.
"It is great to win games in the last 10 minutes. It's exciting."
Cristiano Ronaldo endured a mixed day in front of goal despite setting more history.
The Portuguese surpassed legendary English striker Jimmy Greaves as the all-time top goalscorer in Europe's top leagues when he headed home his 367th league goal midway through the first half.
However, Ronaldo then saw a second-half penalty saved by Valencia's spot-kick specialist Diego Alves.
The visitors then looked set to add a new twist to the title race when Dani Parejo curled home a brilliant free-kick eight minutes from time.
And Zidane admitted his side nearly paid for taking their foot off the gas in the second period with Tuesday's Champions League semifinal, first leg against Atletico Madrid in mind.
"It is true that we were in a comfort zone for 30 minutes, the fans were the same," said the Frenchman.
"After Valencia scored they started to push the players on once more and it was a completely different match.
"I know from my experience as a player when you are playing every three days you can think more about trying to control the game."

Ronaldo is Europe's top goal scorer
Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed legendary English striker Jimmy Greaves on Saturday to become the all-time leading scorer in Europe's top leagues with 367 goals.
Ronaldo's goal against Valencia was his 280th in La Liga, with the Portugal star also netting three times for Sporting Lisbon before scoring 84 Premier League goals in six highly successful years at Manchester United.
Real's all-time record goalscorer is now just four off 400 in all competitions for the Spanish giants.
Greaves, 77, scored 366 in 528 appearances for Chelsea, AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham between 1957 and 1971.
He was part of the England squad that won the 1966 World Cup, but injury cost him his place after the group stage as his replacement Geoff Hurst went on to score a hat-trick in the final over West Germany.
Barcelona's Lionel Messi also looks set to overtake Greaves shortly as the Argentine has netted 345 La Liga goals for the Catalan giants.

Philippe Coutinho has hailed Neymar's quality and spoken of his joy at playing alongside the Barcelona superstar for Brazil.

'Why won't Wenger get Griezmann?'

The Liverpool playmaker is a reported transfer target for Barca, with reports in Spain suggesting the Catalans have launched 'Operation Coutinho' as they plot a move to sign him at the end of the season.

Neymar said this week he wanted Coutinho to join him at Camp Nou and believes his international team-mate would "totally fit in Barcelona".

And Coutinho returned the compliment ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Paraguay, praising Neymar's ability and influence on the national team.

"Look, Neymar is a great player as we can all see," Coutinho told reporters.

"He is the guy that decides a lot of games, a guy that is fundamental on our national team.

"We have been together over a period of time since the youth teams, and playing beside him, he can change the game easily.

"We give the ball to him and he sorts it out!"

Brazil have won eight matches in a row under new boss Tite, the most recent of those victories coming in the stunning 4-1 victory over Uruguay in Montevideo last time out.

"Of course, it is really cool to see that everyone is with us," added Coutinho.

"Obviously everyone is following Tite's work – he is doing a great job. So this just makes us more confident.

'Wenger too arrogant for his own good'

"As you saw in the stadium, there was a lot of positive energy. So it' is really good for us."

Brazil are back in action against Paraguay in Sao Paulo on Tuesday.

The Wales international is looking forward to returning to England ahead of Tuesday's Champions League semi-final and he maintains there are no favourites for the tie
Gareth Bale says he is looking forward to returning to England and is expecting an exciting game as Real Madrid travel to Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City on Tuesday.

The Champions League semi-final first-leg will be the former Tottenham star's first game away to English opposition since his move to Madrid, having missed out on his side's match at Anfield when they faced Liverpool in last year's competition.

And the Wales international is eagerly anticipating his return and says he has a good record against Manuel Pellegrini's charges.
"I think we won a few times, I’ve scored a few times against them," he told reporters. "It will be a very good game for sure, they’re a very tough team but we’ll be going there to try and win and do everything we can to get to the final.

"I always loved playing in the Premier League, I still watch it and it will be great to go back. The most important thing is to get the victory.
