My Dodgy Leg
This Page is about my dislocating Fibula and needing a reconstruction of the proximal Tibiofibular joint and the problems with finding a surgeon.
And Recovery from Surgery.
Before surgery I would never have dreamed of tackling walking anywhere near these rocks as the leg would have dislocated quick smart. But I was able to navigate with ease over, and around these rock pools with sure footing a couple of weeks ago ❤️🦵
So after my recent post about my ankle getting stuck and on a weird angle. Good news nothing shows up on the X-ray and ultrasound, but it was still stiff and swollen etc; so in the last 2 weeks;
I went and saw a remedial massage therapist and he got rid of the swelling and got a little more movement in the ankle but it still felt jammed, and I couldn’t move more than 90degrees up and down etc also lots of pain still in the joint and where the tightrope went in above the ankle every time I tried to walk.
Then since I was back in Melb for work I went to a chiropractor 6 days after the massage and they made an adjustment which gave me even more movement in the ankle and the knee felt 100% better as he made an adjustment on that as well.
Then went off to the Osteo 3 days later who did some dry needling and lots of massage etc which got rid of a lot more of the swelling and tightness from the calf and ankle, I got even more movement back into it the leg and ankle, and the achiness that had been there even when not walking etc was gone.
Then I went back to the chiropractor (same practice but different person as the other person wasn’t on that day) 3days later and he ajusted the ankle again and this time I have full movement back in the ankle now, and the pain the op site just above the ankle has gone, just slight pain and swelling right in the ankle joint itself if I walk too much etc.
So happy with how it’s currently traveling. Will be back in the water soon for more walking rehab.
Ankle has been aching heaps since Thursdays Physio session. Went to the pool today to walk in the pool while my son swam as hydro therapy, next thing I couldn’t put my foot down properly on the ground and it really hurts when I weight bearing. Put the Cam boot on and off to the hospital to get it checked. Dr did X-ray’s of ankle and has given me slip for ultrasound on Monday. His thinking I’ve torn a ligament.
How all the scars are healing. Didn’t wear the hinged knee brace today and took it really easy and had it up for most of the day to give it a break as The outside ankle was really starting to hurt in the brace.
The ankle is still a bit stiff but it is the leg is feel heaps better. Haven’t had any pain killers (codeine/Plexia/Panadol) apart from nurofen since Sunday/Monday
These socks are awesome at keeping the swelling down in my leg and under the brace.
When sitting down and the foot is getting pins and needles, time for the brace to come off.
Compression sock under the brace instead of dressings. 👍❤️
Itchy from the dressings but healing well.
Took the very itchy dressings off. Very minimal cuts on the bottom half of the leg. Did the top of the leg yesterday morning. But forgot to take photos.
Took the padding off.
Surgery went well.
Surgeon replaced the top fake ligament and put and extra one in at the top and bottom. Also bone graft at the top of the tib/fib joint too.
2 more sleeps and this will be a thing of the past. Bring on surgery! ❤️❤️
Surgery is booked for Monday. Yippee!!
Another trip up to the hospital to get it put back in after it went out while I was grabbing the grocery shopping.
Hour wait in ED at the hospital and then the Dr tonight recognised my notes from a few weeks ago and put it back in quickly then 😃👍
Maybe a bit tight was starting to ache so have taken it off for a little while
Trying out new strapping and new shoes instead of the bulky cam boot. It feels so strange trying walking. And being able to move the ankle.
I love having a letter from the dr’s telling them how to put my leg back in alignment as it makes the trip to the hospital so much faster now. The Dr I saw today was excited that I was the fastest and easiest patient he had seen to treat today. Also he was another person that had never seen it before.
Bu**er my leg is stuck. Off to the hospital it’s taken me
Physio has taped my leg up today and I will have this on for two days instead of the boot. Also I will continue with the excercises he gave me last week.
Standing on my leg/foot and my toes are not even touching the ground 😳 this leg is too weird.
Ankle on the outside hurts.and leg is sore where the Fibula head is.
How my right leg/foot sits currently relaxed. Excuse the mess my son is currently playing around me
My ankle feels icy cold but not cold to touch which is a weird feeling as my other leg ankle feels normal and not cold at all.
Today I had xrays while my leg was out (couldn’t straighten leg without help, and I had pain down right side of leg from thigh right down to ankle) and had the same xrays again after I had manipulated the fibula back in (I could straighten and bend my leg with ease ect).
This is with knee at 30 degrees

Yesterday I saw the surgeon and I tried to show him my leg when it goes out by turning my foot outward and squatting down and I accidentally put the knee cap out as well. Oops
red ⭕️+❌ is where my knee cap was when I did it and the green 🔘 is where it was when it was back in place and where it should be.
Just had the fun task of popping the fibula out and in with the help of the radiologist and the technician as they did ultrasound on it. Now I have a weird feeling leg and no brace on it. Need to put the brace back on now.
