WHAT CAUSES HYPOTHYROIDISM?

"Hypothyroidism is the most common thyroid problem around, especially in women. But what causes this condition?

There are many different factors that can lead to an underactive thyroid, including the following:

Estrogen dominance
Poor diet, food sensitivity, soy and gluten.
Nutrient deficiencies, Iodine, Zinc and Selenium
Lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle
Obesity and inflammation
Poor gut health
Stress and cortisol
Genetics
Pregnancy
Several of these factors are totally (or almost totally) in your control – this is good news!

To figure out how to lose weight with hypothyroidism, you need to address those things that you CAN control: your dietary lifestyle, exercise, and stress levels."

Asparagus Recipe {How to Cook Asparagus Perfectly} | SimplyRecipes.com 17/08/2020

Let’s have some asparagus for a veggie this week!

“One of the quickest and easiest ways to prepare fresh asparagus is to simply blanch them for a couple of minutes and toss them with some freshly grated Parmesan cheese, olive oil, and lemon zest.

Boiling them for only a couple minutes ensures that the asparagus will be cooked through, but still crisp and vibrant green. Asparagus should have a gentle crunch to them; they should not be mushy.

A little lemon zest helps brighten the natural flavor of the asparagus, and the Parm and olive oil? Well, of course they make everything taste good.”

Q. How can I start loving my body as it is?

A. Stop comparing yourself to others, unfollow triggering accounts on IG and FB, give yourself compliments and adopt a spirit of gratitude.**

Put positive affirmations on your bathroom mirror with a dry erase marker.

This could be statements like 'I am beautiful!' 'I am enough!' or 'I am getting better at my healthy choices every day!'

Use prayer to start seeing your body and yourself as God sees you.

He is mindful of how you feel and loves you without end. He does not want you to feel negatively about yourself. He wants you to love yourself! He also teaches us, through scriptures, that He loves to see our efforts and work. Ask for His help to find the right tools and approach for where you're at to make small improvements.

Identify 3 things each day about your body that functions and works well. Express gratitude for it.

This could include things you would never think of--like having an elbow that bends so you can scratch your back! Or a big toe that helps you balance and not fall over! Or having ribs that protect your lungs and heart so they don't get squished when someone gives you a hug! Our bodies have SOOO many amazing features!!!

Be more present with meals and workouts.

Chew more slowly, appreciate the flavors, and imagine how that food is contributing to your body. Enjoy the PROCESS of eating and working out strategically.

Adopt the mindset of gratitude for the chance to fuel it and challenge it--never make it about punishment.

* Just as faith and fear cannot coexist, gratitude and entitlement cannot coexist. Give away the things you feel aren't fair in life, and you'll find more room for gratitude

Tomatoes are a nightshade food that may or may not negatively impact you. It's important to test how you feel and make the best decision for you, given what your body is experiencing. Nightshades may cause inflammation, so if you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis or Grave's Disease, it may be best to consider avoiding tomatoes for a long period of time (and all nightshades). After some time, you may be able to reintroduce them without a problem. The key is to try eliminating them from your diet for a time (usually 2-3 weeks) to notice a difference when reintroducing them.

This also insinuates you have cleaned up your diet and eliminated the greater culprits--white flour, white sugar, gluten, and occasionally, dairy. It's a process so be patient with yourself!

How are you doing on making dark, leafy greens a part of your regular nutrition routine?

Make it a goal to get in some of these wonderful greens for their antioxidants, vitamin K, folate, vitamin C, and carotenoids. Try adding these greens to

STIR FRYS
SOUPS
SCRAMBLES
& SHAKES

(Kale, being cruciferous, is best if steamed or cooked--so try to avoid it in *large amounts* raw).

Your body wants for you to eat these nature-given foods that contain iron and calcium for stronger bones and blood.

Your body wants for you to eat these beautiful plants that are so vibrant in color, displaying the antioxidants they possess which help your liver do its job to clean your blood every 6 minutes.

Your body wants for you to eat these incredible leafy greens to naturally get folate, which helps your body create DNA and other genetic material (SO critical for pregnant women especially!!)

If you think these greens are BITTER, that's okay! Let's explore sautéing them in grass-fed butter, avocado oil, olive oil, or coconut oil! Add plenty of sea salt, pepper, and even some oregano (my fave).

Chop them up super small (especially collard greens and chard since they are thicker), so these leaves are easy to chew and swallow.

Do not wait to introduce these to children! They should be chopped up small and introduced as soon as a child can chew and swallow them on their own.

What is YOUR favorite way to enjoy these greens?
