This is a new video series where I'll be sharing my coaching journey and the lessons I've learned along the way. Part 1 - The Awakening - My very first Flow experience.

16/06/2023

I was thinking about this the other day. If Flow is a state of being completely engaged and present in the moment, than almost everything we do is with the purpose of CHASING FLOW.

We want the work that we do to be engaging and meaningful, the kind of work that makes time fly. That's Flow.

We want our relationships to be with people that we feel a deep connection to, like we share the same energy. That's Flow.

We choose activities and hobbies that take over our minds and require our entire focus. Why do we dance, write, make music, and create art? Why do we exercise? We're chasing Flow.

Why do we pray, meditate and seek out spiritual experiences? To feel a connection to something greater than ourselves. A connection to Flow.

On the darker side of things, why do we drink, smoke w**d, use other substances, spend hours watching TV or playing video games, or any other addiction really? Why do we engage in activities that we know are bad for us yet do them anyway? To escape from reality, forget the past and stop worrying about the future. These things provide a version of Flow.

There are many different versions of Flow. Some are good, some are bad. But we have the choice to chase the good. We can create or seek out powerful experiences that engage our body, mind and soul.

Because any way you look at it, we are all CHASING FLOW.

In 2014, while living in Costa Rica, I learned I could use combinations of movement and breath, much like many cultures have been doing for thousands of years, to connect with the Spirit of the Jungle, and even hang out with monkeys.

Connecting to Flow is connecting to the power of Life.

The best way to get started with a breathing or meditation practice is to find 5-minute pockets of opportunity to focus on your breathing.

As I get older and my body slows down due to too many years of high intensity, high impact training, Yoga has become an incredibly important part of my movement practice. Strength, balance, mobility, focus, it's all there.

Just like martial arts, it connects movement and breath in such a powerful way, allowing me to escape into the movement and connect to Flow.

The best way I can describe Yoga is it's what I do that allows me to do everything else.

Over the past 22 years, one of the most consistent things in my life has been my relationship with the punching bag. I tried to do the math the other day to figure out how many punches and kicks I've thrown in my life, I didn't get an exact number but it was well into the millions.

I don't know if there's a more empowering feeling than flipping the switch, tapping into the primal mind and escaping into Flow on the punching bag. Sure, punching bag sessions are a great workout for the body, but these days, what keeps me coming back after 22 years, is what it does for my mind.

There are many dualities in life: light and dark, day and night, black and white, war and peace. Achieving balance doesn't depend on picking one or the other, it depends on how we move from one to the other and navigate the space in between.

What does it mean to be a fighter

31/03/2023

We all have a dark side. I don't see that side of ourselves as bad or evil, though it can be. Darkness is an energy, just like light is an energy. As a fighter, you learn to harness that dark energy, use it as source of focus, of strength, of intensity.

Darkness can be addicting, overwhelming, which is why some of us get lost there, struggling to find the light. Learning to harness the darkness, take control of it, is how we find balance between light and dark. We want to live in the light, but life is also dark, and so we must learn to navigate that balance. Learn to take control of our darkness before it takes control of us.

Every time I shadowbox outside, bathing in the primal energy of the forest, I'm reminded of the powerful connection that exists between movement, breath, nature and flow.

Photos from Patrick Sebastien's post 27/03/2023

Breathing and meditating in the forest is a powerful way to connect with the Spirit of the Earth and tap into that primal Life Force.

To enhance the experience, make sure to first, open your hands to the sky and invite the Spirit of the Forest to flow through you.

Next, take some time to place your hands on the Earth, ground yourself and connect with her Energy.

Finally, don't forget to pay respect. She is the source of all Life and Mothe

People assume that learning how to fight is about violence. It's actually about peace. Being a FIGHTER is knowing how to control your violence, to focus that chaotic energy into something positive and powerful.

Whether you're learning how to fight in a ring, or standing up for what you believe in, the road to peace sometimes requires you to fight, with your body, mind and spirit. So you better be ready for it. Peace.

CERTIFIED FIGHTER Collection of t-shirts, hoodies and journals is now available (link in bio)

Dear Muay Thai,

Thank you for coming into my life 22 years ago. I didn't know it at the time, but you would change my life in so many ways.

You taught me about strength, balance, humility and respect.

You taught me how to fight and face my fears, not only in the ring, but in life.

You helped me discover a passion for coaching and teaching and introduced me to so many incredible people along the way.

I can no longer practice your beautiful art the way I used to, too many years of pushing my body in your honor has taken its toll. But I'm not done yet, just have to find new ways to honor you and share the wisdom that so many can benefit from.

You taught me that learning to fight isn't about violence, it's about peace. You taught me to take control of my violence, to harness its energy and focus it in a positive direction.

You taught me how to MOVE, how to BREATHE and how to FLOW.

I am forever in your debt. Sawasdee khap.

How to leverage your workouts to focus your mind! Breathe!

20/03/2023

This is what mental health looked like for me these past couple of years. Just because you saw me smiling, doesn't mean I wasn't riddled with anxiety. Just because I looked peaceful on the outside, doesn't mean I wasn't fighting back the rage.

I learned a lot these past few years, about how to fight when things are hard, but also how to let go and move on when it's a fight you can't win. There is no perfect life, but there is life, and we only get the one (at least as far as I know), which makes it incredibly precious.

I learned that the most valuable commodity we have is time. Fear, stress, anxiety and doubt have taken enough of my time away from me, and so I will fight until my last breath to not waste any more of my precious time on things that are ultimately under my control.

Through it all, the most valuable lesson I've learned is this: I have the ability to take control of my mind, to shift my perpsective from negative to positive, to combine movement and breath, unlock the power of flow and unleash my ultimate potential on the world.

I also choose to dedicate myself to helping others challenge their bodies, unlock their minds and discover what they're truly capable of.

So that is how I choose to live. Peace.

Discovering The Power Of Flow State with Patrick Sebastien 19/03/2023

Did you hear the story about the guy who ran up a mountain and discovered he had a superpower?

These are two definitions of this powerful word. The first obviously applies to human potential. I especially like the idea of "latent abilities", like superpowers that are just waiting to be released.

The second applies to physics, but I like to think it also applies to human potential. We are a mass in a gravitational field, and so potential also refers to the stored energy we have, ready to be unleashed into the world.

Fear, stress, anxiety and doubt act like dams in our mind, holding back the flow of potential just waiting to be unleashed into the world. Take control of them, remove the dam, and discover what you're truly capable of.

There's a scene in the Captain Marvel movie, when she is being held captive and is speaking to the Supreme Consciousness. This is when she realizes that they had implanted a chip in her neck that was blocking her powers.

She says "All this time I've been fighting with one hand tied behind my back. What happens when I'm finally set free?" She then destroys the chip and goes on to become the most powerful hero in the universe.

As I was watching, I started thinking that we all have a chip like that holding us back. It's fear, stress, anxiety and doubt. When we allow those to take over our minds, we perform at a fraction of our potential. So what would happen if we were finally set free? If we could take control of fear and doubt and unleash our full potential on the world.

What would you do with that kind of power?
