Arrows of the Greywood
Mark of Omnivore's Homestead And Quivers has joined the greywood. This is his first set of bamboos and I can tell they won't be his last. Centaur Archery,

This southern heat has kept me out of my workshop the last two days. Temperatures in the shop were well over 110! Don’t fret Archers, I will continue my work as an arrowwright soon though. In the meantime I’m going to discuss instinctive archery. Instinctive archery is a shooting style that uses “instinct” to shoot accurately. There is much to consider when shooting instinctively. Consistent anchor point, depth perception, judge of distance/elevation, muscle memory, muscle strength/fatigue, and on and on the factors continue. A true instinctive archer calculates all of these factors as the bow is being raised and drawn, by the time the archer is at their anchor, the shot will be calculated and the arrow loosed seconds later. Success in instinctive archer constant practice is required. There is no gap system or sight pins to reference. A calm, silent mind will find the mark more often. Once the bamboo shafts have been selected and cut to length, the lacquer-like coating, that is applied at the distributors, must be removed. I scrape the layer off with a small knife and sand the shafts to a 220grit finish. I then buff the shafts with a cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol. I’ve found this is a good way to remove sanding dust, and open the fibers to accept stains easier. This is a short clip of my method.
