Civil rights groups denounce Donald Trump's comment that Civil War 'could have been negotiated' 08/01/2024

"Lincoln should've negotiated the civil war..."

Essentially, the decision to enslave people should've been conditional. The year is 2024.

Civil rights groups denounce Donald Trump's comment that Civil War 'could have been negotiated' Civil rights groups said Trump's comments were an "egregious" effort to court white nationalists by downplaying the enslavement of Black people.

Atlanta got mad at Keith Lee.
Now y’all can get mad at me.

But this is like you gettin mad at your momma telling you that you smell like outside…after you been outside… but you mad?

Before you get your hot wings all flustered, hear me:

Atlanta SHOULD BE the SOLE place with THE BEST Black fast food, casual dining and fine dining experiences, all day, everyday... for walk-ins, weekend service and for people with allergies. All damn day.

The ingredients, the flavor, the people are all there... so what is the issue?

I often think it is the masses of Atlanta transplants, that leave less, expect more, but feel like it should just be given to them because they moved to Atlanta.

Please understand that Atlanta became the city you love, the city you moved to, the city to watch… the Black Mecca, if you will, because people were intentional. They believed in it. It is not a given. It won’t be that way if there is no intention.

This is compounded by the racist initiatives to break up the power Atlanta has by creating municipalities (or sowing division if you wanna get southern and biblical). You may have set your eyes on Dunwoody or Brookhaven… and don’t even realize that at one point, that was Atlanta. Own government, own mayor, police department, etc — but also your vote. You didn’t realize that you couldn’t vote in Atlanta until you moved to Sandy Springs. Now you’re comfortable but have many complaints about the traffic, the transit and things that affect you, but you live in Jonesboro.

I’ll save my gripe about the rich resources these municipalities take away from the city (and there are many other metro areas where racism has done this same thing) for another day.

Some brief Atlanta history and why you should give a damn:

Maynard Jackson, first Black mayor. He’s the reason (hate it or love it) that Atlanta remains the busiest and one of the most successful airports in the world.

After he was elected in ‘74, he told local leaders that he was going to move forward with the expansion of Hartsfield Airport, transforming one of the nation’s busiest airports into an international hub. He also dropped a bombshell: 25% of all contracts would be set aside for minority firms.

A lot of things happened in a two year span and the white opposition immediately activated. This was at least $450M leaving the pockets of the white elite and headed into Black communities.. communities that were thriving, able and capable but had been shut out of every process. The negative rhetoric of the time was parallel to what we’ve seen with conservative rhetoric around DEI and the supreme courts’ stance on affirmative action.

Jackson increased the percentage of contracts to minorities from less than 1% in 1973 to roughly 39% five years later. In the process, he strengthened the black middle class, created scores of black millionaires, and created strong, long-standing and competitive Black countries.

That said — the next investment group with the homies or the girls.. should be along these lines.

If you’ve been sowing into a church building fund for the last 10 years and ain’t seen nothing, go get your money back and build something.

If you are transplant, calling Atlanta home and are more pi**ed that your barbershop doesn’t have ho**ah, you’ve got some work to do.

New York law prohibits employers from accessing your private social media accounts 23/12/2023

Bills like this are why the right fights incessantly to cancel New York.

Instead of fighting for things like this in your local governments and state houses, people are waiting on president to address their personal grievances.

New York law prohibits employers from accessing your private social media accounts A new bill in New York State -- S2518A -- is coming in March 2024. It "prohibits an employer from requesting that an employee or applicant disclose any means for accessing an electronic personal account."

Ruby was just 6 years old when she was escorted to public school by US Marshals on Nov 14, 1960 as the first Black child to attend previously whites-only William Frantz Elementary in New Orleans.

Just six.

Earlier this year, a single parent in Florida objected to her second grader watching a movie about Bridges, asserting that learning this history at such a young age may cause animosity and hatred toward white people.

Ruby Bridges is a LIVING legend.
LIVING history.
She’s only 69.

So yes, things were this awful less than 100 years ago.

We should all know this history — so that it is not repeated. Children are smart. Hate is most often taught at home.

Conservative school board in Missouri rescinds anti-racism resolution 25/07/2023

In the national reckoning that followed the police killing of George Floyd three years ago, about 2,000 protesters took to the streets in a St. Louis suburb and urged the mostly white Francis Howell School District to address racial discrimination. The school board responded with a resolution promising to do better.

Now the board, led by new conservative board members elected since last year, has revoked that anti-racism resolution and copies of it will be removed from school buildings.

Conservative school board in Missouri rescinds anti-racism resolution The Francis Howell district is among Missouri’s largest, with 17,000 students, about 87% of whom are white. O’FALLON, Mo.
