Support Michael Hughes | TpT ClassFundโ„ข I work with an incredible group of enthusiastic, hardworking students. Part of what makes teaching them so rewarding is that they all bring their own strengths and personalities to class. But this also means that, to meet my studentsโ€™ individual learning needs, one size does not fit all. This is w...

Needed to take the puppet game up a level for my TK students. Now I can make videos and bring them to life in any setting. Love using the DoInk green screen app. Now I can make literacy, math and SEL videos with my puppets.

๐Ÿงธ Puppet Show CVC ๐ŸŽฅ

I love puppets. They teach with me every day. Our class puppets are integrated into our lessons in all subject areas. Today Sam became digital. My students had to listen Samโ€™s Flipgrid videos to help them sound out and write CVC words. Their laughter was the best part. Laughter w/ Learning in TK.

๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿฝ Hear 2 Write โœ๐Ÿฝ

Today we had a breakthrough moment in class. My TK students used Flipgrid to help them write complete sentences. Students had to listen ๐ŸŽง to the sentence being spoken to them and I included visual aids too. They then had to build the sentence from the Word Bank. The added support helped my littles be successful writers. 4 year olds are amazing scholars.

๐Ÿค” Epic! Comprehension ๐Ÿ“š

My students listen to a๐Ÿ“• in their Epic for Kids ๐Ÿ“ฌ. They then use Flipgrid to listen comprehension questions from the ๐Ÿ“–. My TKers then draw their answers in the box provided. Listening and responding to text is ๐Ÿ”‘ for my learners.

โœ๏ธ Capitals Vs Lowercase โœ๐Ÿฝ

Such a simple task brought so much joy to my littles. We have been practicing knowing the difference between capital and lowercase letters. Today they got to use their names and their friendโ€™s names to isolate and write the capitals and lowercase letters. They literally ran to get more names to write. Never have I had such eager writers. When they were finished they had to tell me all the capitals they wrote and some of the lowercase letters they wrote by name. It was kind of an all in one type of activity.

๐Ÿš‚ Sight Word TRAINing ๐Ÿš‚

Made these self paced flash cards for my little to practice his sight words. I used Google Slides and Mote (for audio integration). He was having problems with a few words and how to say them. Now he can practice on his own. I will be adapting these for my high kids in TK but combining them with QR codes so they can just scan them with iPads and practice.

โœ๐Ÿฝ Writers to Readers and Back! โ™ป๏ธ

My TK scholars wrote their first sentences and read them back. Created this journal page with a word bank so they can practice writing, sight words, cvc, and reading. We do hard things.

๐Ÿ“• TK Sight Word Flip ๐Ÿ“š

We ventured into sight words and a taste of CVC words. I love seeing the look of success on my kidsโ€™ faces as they read to me, when just weeks ago they didnโ€™t even know a letter sound. We are making progress in TK and are slowing becoming Super Readers!

Best part is that they read it at home with their parents/guardians and then bring it back signed for a little surprise.

๐Ÿ“•๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’› Digital and Printable Color Books ๐Ÿงกโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ“•

We have been learning our colors through choral, shared and independent reading. These digital books allow students to read as a class and independently on iPads. The printable books are great for practicing concepts of print and early sight words plus fine motor skills like cutting and gluing, and coloring. Itโ€™s only been a few weeks in TK and I have readers.

I love having readers in TK.

We started Sky Grass Dirt Writing this week in TK. This was my first attempt using this method. Iโ€™ve seen it being used but decided to make my own version complete with a writing worksheet to do on Fridays. I was impressed by how well my little 4 year old's did. We practiced on an image projected on whiteboard, on laminated strips and finally with a pencil on a worksheet. They are why I create.

School is out and it is a good time to get ready for our TK and Kindergarten year coming up. The focus for this weekโ€™s creations is on developing better penmanship in our littles. Saw a few of these types of writing programs online. Wanted to try it out with my little and he is catching on quickly. He could already write his name but it was filled with floating letters and generally messy. We are on our way to becoming a super writer now.

Last Day of School and last commute of the school year. What a ride ๐Ÿ it was this year!!! So many lessons learned (by me, not even the kids). The longest year on record is over. It was hard to let these 4th graders go. Some cried (as it was their 3rd year with me) and I tried not to. It was so bittersweet. I am exhausted, beyond exhausted, and but in the end I am grateful for having this opportunity to go way outside of my comfort zone. I am a kindergarten teacher through and through but respect the hard work and dedication my upper grade peers have. It is a whole other ballgame in the upper grades. There are no easy jobs in education. But what was easy was loving these kids through a pandemic. They needed it and I needed it too. Iโ€™m going to miss themโ€ฆโ€ฆ. Goodbyes are hard especially with this group. Back to kinderland I go.
