Wild Water Wellness

We completed our Channel Relay Swim on Sunday 30th June in an amazing 12hrs 49 mins (All times and results are unofficial until ratified by the CS&PF Committee)

There were jelly fish, big tankers, swells, tidal pull, rain, cold water and of course lots of swimming. There was also laughter, cake, dry robes, support, determination and new friendships (oh and 2 pots of vaseline....see photo no. 2)

What I can only describe as an epic challenge.
Did I love every minute? No.
Did I question myself? Constantly.
Am I glad I did it? Hell yes!

Now back on dry land, time to have a nice warm bath and never contemplate a solo attempt.....well...maybe

**long post to explain**

Exactly one year ago I was delivering a speech to over 600 pupils and parents at my old school. My speech talked about the challenges I had faced, my time at the school and how these experiences shape us and become 'our story'.

Some time afterwards I was tagged in a post asking if anyone fancied a Channel Relay Swim as part of an old girls team.....of course I accepted. Fast forward (and believe me it's gone so much faster than I had hoped) and I am now down in the South England, bags packed, sea sickness tablets at the ready waiting for the green light.

I have spent the last 6 months shrugging the idea off, it's just a relay, it's not a solo swim ....but reality hit hard this week watching the sea temperatures, conditions and times it took other teams and talking with the others.

I've realised this is not going to be easy. This is going to be cold, uncomfortable and desperately tiring. Most swimmers taking on these endurance swims are physically ready but a huge part of this commitment and ability to succeed is facing the mental challenge.

Working with Operation Cairngorms CIC and many close friends I've been humbled hearing of those facing daily battles with their health both physically and mentally but everyone I have met had one thing in common.....they were not ready to give up.

We all face challenges big and small and we have to work hard to get through them, some of them we hide, some we openly discuss but all form part of our story. Your story.

I chose to accept this challenge, to make myself uncomfortable, to push myself once again.
