In today’s U.S. Army, Soldiers march and run to calls as an essential part of training, socialization, and in keeping with Military traditions, but some lyrics have been updated to reflect modern times, and have variations adapted to fit the training, exercise, or unit mission. Cadence improve Soldiers’ teamwork, camaraderie, and physical performance. Typically sung at either marching (120 beats per minute) or running (180 beats per minute) speed, cadence calls ensure that troops keep their head up and breaths forceful while running or marching, improving their endurance and coordination.
