Dads... let the kid fall. They will thank you later.

My journey with coffee began with my Dad. This morning I had the opportunity to reflect back on growing up and with each passing year, I more deeply appreciate my Dad. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this old photograph perfectly captures what we are missing today.

Stupid should hurt. It's how we learn. I might have been 12. My Uncle is probably explaining to me how the clutch works. My cousin and brother are looking on with that childhood fascination, eagerly waiting for me to lay the bike over so they could have a turn. No helmet. No knee pads. Most importantly, my Dad is absolutely not within arms reach, and had no intention of catching my fall.

Today's society is missing the point. Life doesn't hand out 13th place awards. It's not fair. It's not supposed to be. Winners win, losers talk about winners, and you learn to pick yourself up by falling down.

This Father's day, we raise our mug to Dads. We hope your coffee is strong. We hope you fire up the grill, the beer is cold, and you crank the mower on the first pull right in front of the neighbor's wife and kids. * major Dad flex * Just tie the handle down, or put a cinder block on the seat so the blades stay on and let the kid mow the yard. Take the training wheels off. Asphalt will skin knees. Rub some dirt on it. Let the kid fall. They will thank you later.

Emily Appreciation Post ☕️💯 Congrats on one year at BCJ!

Ability is important in the quest for success. Dependability is critical.

2020 was an incredibly challenging year for everyone and building a business and a brand from the ground up is tough during the best of times.

Emily has been on board from our first market events, has roasted, tried her hand at outside sales, works our coffee tent and without fail - shows up with a can do attitude. She’s early. She doesn’t call in sick, and if she says she will do something you can consider it done and done well.

Most people miss opportunity when it knocks because it’s dressed as hard work. Emily isn’t most people and we’re proud she’s on the team!

⚠️ Coffee Nerd Alert ⚠️ Everything you need to know about Peaberry!!

March's Coffee Club Micro Lot is a Brazilian Peaberry. Typically a coffee cherry has two seeds inside. These are picked, pulped, and washed to produce the green coffee beans that are roasted. A Peaberry is a naturally occurring mutation where only one bean is present inside of the coffee cherry - instead of two.

Because Peaberries are the only seed inside of the cherry, they are smaller, rounder, and more dense. They also receive all the nutrients of the coffee cherry, making them sweeter and higher and caffeine!!

We're roasting 150lbs of this delicious coffee in March, so if you're in CC make sure to choose Monthly Micro Lot as one of your selections and enjoy this really rich bold bean!

OUR PASSION LED US HERE

The world is pretentious. Your coffee shouldn't be.

The man who introduced me to coffee taught me everything I know about hard work and determination. He was up before the sun. He never complained. He listened more than he spoke. He was hard and fair, and he carried a green thermos of hot black coffee every single morning.

Long before it was vogue to serve foam and sugar with a splash of coffee and a side of designer handbag selfies & political views, America was built on the backs of hard working dreamers. Men and women who rose early, worked late, and were proud of what they could build for their families.

Each time I smell coffee, I go back to the mornings Dad would twist off that thermos cap that became a little cup... pour some Joe in it, and pass it over carefully. From the hands that planted the seed, to the backs of the workers who picked the cherries, the hopes and dreams and ambitions of every single person who washed, shipped and roasted the beans - there was so much more than coffee in that cup.

Blue Collar Joe isn't coffee - it's a way of life. If you share that lifestyle with us, we raise our mug to you.
