I can't believe it's taken so long for me to finally get an opportunity to collaborate with the great lyricist and even better friend, Dennis Spiegel. We've known each other since before we were born....and had been talking about working on a song together since the dark ages!

All of you who are current members of the The Society of Composers & Lyricists can watch the lyric video and vote in The SCL Awards. The awards ballot will be open soon and will be found inside an email the SCL will send to you. The lyric video appears in the Song in a Dramatic Film category. The lyric scrolls across the screen as the song plays over the movie's end credits.

It is titled Hear The Souls Who Weep and it is the closing song from the film 'The Offering' and acts as a haunting resolution to a story based on Jewish folklore.

Special Friends: This one was originally titled ‘Portraits’ for indeed that’s exactly what they are. Though, it is easy in most of the pictures to find a face or a full body along with the face, there are instances where you have to search to find the face that is being profiled. Keep an eye out for yours truly appearing in one of them!

Shadow Paintings: The reason I grouped these together under the title ‘Shadow Paintings’ was that it seems to me that many of them look as though they might have been done utilizing a painters palette. I’m calling them Shadows because the colors on the palette are very restricted to those primary colors that are from the shadow world. I see them as images that are in motion, frozen within a split second of a light being turned…on/off!

Galaxies: The concept for this collection really rests on the shoulders of Lilly Simova. She immediately saw in these the opportunity to group them as imaginary galaxies. Each galaxy is supposed to have a personality of it’s own - though they are all pretty similar. In a few of them, the idea is moving from far away and traveling towards the centre of the galaxy. The original sources of these photos had nothing to do with stars, planets, galaxies, or anything that could be found up in the night sky. Rather, their original source is so dramatically modified, I can’t even recall where these photos originated. But they were definitely not from up above. It goes without saying that the real galaxies up above are unspeakably magnificent.

Sorry for the delayed introduction to the set of three books that were issued this past monday. Here is a quick rundown on what you're about to see;

1m2

The title of this should be mentioned because in the world of film music, 1m2 represents the second music cue that appears in the first reel of a movie. The first set of three photo books that were released on October 2nd opened up with 1m1. Here is the follow up - 1m2. Like 1m1, it is a collection of unrelated photos. A potpourri of dark adventures and misadventures.

Invasion Of Bug Men From Outer Space

My best and most wonderful friend, movie director and writer, Bob Badway, sifted through thousands of the photos I'd taken and immediately saw within them the opportunity to create a story. Being a gigantic fan of 50's and 60's sci-fi and horror films, he came up with the story of the earth being invaded and ultimately destroyed by giant bug creatures from outer space.

Stripes And Stars

What miraculous timing it was that I managed to arrive on the campus of Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, just as they were starting the process of taking down the hundreds of American flags that they put up every Memorial Day. So, no sooner had I taken one of these pictures, that they pulled the flags down and rolled them up for next year. By the time I took the last picture, the field was empty of flags.

Dear Friends,

There is absolutely no way I can find the appropriate words to let you know how entirely heart warmed to the max I was for all of you giving me such strong support on this entirely new adventure of mine. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

It was suggested by a few of you that I should have accompanied each of the three books with a description of what you were about to view - book by book.

So here it goes….

They vary from less strange to pretty strange. The first - Industry - is bound by photos of factories/refineries that line the California coast.

Lights In Darknesses is exactly what it says it is - different formations of lights within total darkness.

The last one is my favorite and the strangest of the three. The sources of the pictures are modified so greatly that they can’t be recognized anymore. The word pareidolia is the tendency to want to find faces in things that are abstract - such has happened here with this set of photos. To me they look like sideshow freaks of an extraordinary kind. Search for the face in them, then imagine they all are alive in a sideshow circus tent, alone with you.

Dear friends,

I can’t thank you enough for following what has been going on with me and my music over the years. I’m certainly the luckiest guy in the world. Believe it or not, for the past 8 years while working on film scores, I simultaneously became obsessed with taking black and white photos. Finally, I’ve put them together in 25 books. They’re puzzling, mysterious and abnormal. Some are random collections while others are bound by a unifying theme - or in a handful of cases - tell an abstract story.

I’ll be releasing 3 books every 3 weeks on my website starting October 2nd and ending on February 26th.

Although transforming from a composer that you all know, to a photographer you don’t know, at all is something completely new for me, I know that if there was ever a group of viewers who would be sympathetic about trying these photos on for size, it would be you all!

OH MY GOD I so very much wish that all of you that I know and have had the opportunity to love all these years were there for the premiere performance of Nosferatu in Zürich back in February!

Outside of the birth of my kids, this was a very very bright moment in my life, which would have been heaven on Earth if I could have been able to share it with all of you.

I was absolutely shocked at the beyond magnificent performance that the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich managed to pull off in a very short period of time under the excellent guidance of conductor Frank Strobel.

The team that made this happen - I’m indebted to for eternity. It started with the great Paul Talkington, (fixer, contractor, film music aficionado extraordinaire). It was he who went out of his way to make this happen because of his never-ending belief in my music.

To the rest of the team involved, including Fernando and Ekkehard, having the opportunity to be asked to do this means that I’m bound to them for life.

And to top it off…my kids were there - Molly & Gil!!!

We’re working on getting this released on CD & perhaps Blu-ray/DVD. It’s 93 minutes of nearly continuous music so you’re gonna have to buckle up for safety!!
